pcie clock question

ok what exactly is the point int the pci-e clock?? if you up it to much it corrupts disk drives but other than that i see no gains of moving it at all. is it supposed to make your gpu's overclock higher?? someone please tell me something this setting does :banghead:
 
for overclocking you want it locked at 100mhz

anything over 105 mhz (in my experience) will stress out gpu hdd onboard sound etc..

except on an asus p5l mx.. board is a beast
 
Overclocking the PCI express bus will increase the bandwith between your GPU and rest of the components to communicate.

Basicly any board should handle over 105MHz, your getting troubles if your passing up to 115MHz, but sometimes from 100Mhz to 110MHz or even 112MHz can boost your performance a few FPS.

You have to stresstest alot in order to make it succeed. Not all chipsets/boards can handle such high speeds.
 
I personally wouldn't touch it, as you are at risk of corrupting your hard disks. I doubt there is any performance difference because of a 10MHz increase, and today's video cards don't even really saturate a PCIe 2.0 x8 slot.

Yes there is a performance increase by just adjusting the PCI-express clock.
 
it merely increases the bandwidth available to your video card.

its extremely rare to need to do this, unless you have a motherboard with a limitation like a 4x PCI-E 1.1 slot or something.


You get very little performance out of it, if any.

my pcie bus has been running at 135mhz for the past 3ish months, and works without a hitch; no corrupt disks, distorted sound, or anything of that sort. :)

i beg to differ. my pcie bus needs to be >100mhz for my cpu to go anything over 310 fsb. currently its at 380mhz x 7 (2.66ghz) on a 945p chipset :D

Well I honestly wouldn't touch this at all, not worth it for the small increase you get. However for an i7 system i heard raising it a few MHz helps when clocking at very high BCLK. 220+

This is not your case as you don't have an i7 PC, but just throwing it out there for the peeps to read. You never know to who it may become helpful :toast:
 
It's not worth "overclocking" your pci-e bus but thats not really why it's there it can help with cross talk (interference) when overclocking your cpu to some frequencies.
