Hello everyone,

I know this subject has often been raised but I take this opportunity to relaunch it in order to have more recent evidence, and, as far as possible, very recent.

I recently acquired a Dell Perc 5 / i (for those who do not know what it is, it is a SAS controller card in PCI Express x8) and I plugged it into my second PCI Express port. The first port is occupied by a HD5870, all on a CM-based P67 (MSI).

I do not notice was on, but in the limitations of the P67 which supports only up to 20 (16?) PCI Express lanes, my Radeon HD is in fact decreased in 2.0 x8 instead of 2.0 x16 early. The Dell meanwhile, is well @ 8x.

I have noticed during my "travels" on the internet that there was a (very) small variation in performance between the 2.0 branch in x8 and the 2.0 x16. After reinstalling my PC and catalyst 11.5b, I did not notice any difference in my games (except for Black Ops and Brink are syphilitic performance level from the beginning). Will he always? I think especially to the next BF3.

I wonder especially the question of the mercantile argument in the spirit of its designers and its "perverse" effect in the minds of people like me who do not know much. Basically, it is necessarily better in x16 than in x8, while it seems not so obvious as that.

Can a Radeon HD saturate the PCI Express port ? I said that I play at 1680x1050.

Thank you very much for your answers!

There is around a 2-3% difference, there's no point in caring

Very fast answers. Thank you very much!

I dont even have 2.0 PCIE

:L and dont even care as it doesnt even matter when it comes to gaming :P

me

every opertunity to get 3% is golden to me thats why my gpu lives @1050Mhz simples 3% could be the difference between pleasantly playable and annoyingly stuttering imho and frequent experience

who actually does?

PCIe 2.0 showed up about 3 years ago with Intel P45, AMD 780G and NVIDIA NF7. But it really has like zero benefit to PCIe 1.0 x16. It's probably more useful for x1 and x4 cards. x16 1.0 was already a boatload of bandwidth.

Thank you for your opinions.
