Philips Launches Earphones Specifically Designed to be Used During Sleep

Philips brand licensee TP Vision has announced a set of earphones specifically designed to be used while sleeping. The N7808 sleep headphones with Kokoon have been designed specifically to be worn during sleep and the in-ear monitors (IEMs) have been designed to be as unobtrusive and comfortable as possible during sleep. Part of the reason for this, is a very compact body that is only 6 mm thick, which Philips claims is thanks to the use of balanced armature drivers and should be compared to regular earphones that often have a body with a thickness of 20 mm or or more. However, what makes the N7808's really special, is that it also features sensors that monitor your sleep pattern, that will fade out the audio as the wearer falls asleep.

The downside is that many of the sensors are placed in a compartment that rests behind your neck and this is also where the battery and Bluetooth connectivity is located. It doesn't appear to be any kind of ANC built in, as the company only mentions noise isolation. However, the heaphones are said to be inducing "intelligent" white noise that is said to masking sounds that make you wake up. The battery is said to be good for 10 hours of usage, which should be sufficient for most people. The partner app designed together with Kokoon allows the user to monitor their sleep duration, as well as the kind of sleeping state the user has attained and for how long during the night. The SN7808 is currently offered at an introductory price of US$174, with an MSRP of US$249.

Some people want to see if they can improve their snoring, deep state of sleeps, through diet, weight loss, etc. Sleep is very important and not everyone wants or needs a sleep study that costs 8 grand in USA.

This would work for me as I don't sleep on my back, only side or stomach. I am still skeptical though, like it would be nice to see some results posted in their actual advertising campaign.

yeah sleeping on my belly is a really bad habit I need to break. I have been getting better at sleeping on my side, a proper investment into a good leg pillow was a good idea.

same thoughts but I know someone who like to sleep listening to light music and dont want to disturb everyone by using speakers. also as other pointed out there are health reasons as well.

My sleep study was just done at home, only cost around $500-600 for the equipment and follow up appointment (still overpriced if you ask me). Having earbuds stuffed into your ear isn't going to help with snoring or anything of that nature.

If they help you get better sleep through ambient noises or music, then cool. But if you have troubles with snoring or sleep apnea, these will do nothing for you. If you have to go in for a sleep study at a sleep facility it may cost thousands of dollars, I can't comment on that, but the at home test was pretty inexpensive in comparison to a possible $8k.

some people (like me) need more advanced sleep study, it cost 8 grand (insurance paid all but like $400 or something though, this was many years ago).

at home test is fine for most people unless your Doctor determines you need more advanced sleep study. just fyi.

If one wants the cheap, Sino option, there are sleep eye-masks that have basic headphones built into them and a tiny battery pack available on Amazon. Lasts about 4 hours, and only useful if one is a back or belly sleeper, but if the goal is some kind of sleep music to help one sleep, it does a serviceable job.

For me, the best thing I bought for a better sleep was a sleep mask. Now I have 5 incase I lose one or the dog eats it for lunch. I love my big bastard (dog) but he loves to eat those sleep masks, last year he ate 4.

Doubt it. I mean sleeping in these wont work for many. And the reason being--sensitive ears.
I get discomfort from wearing any ear devices for more than 1 hour. And if I keep wearing them I get headache.
8 hours of wearing these will be extremely uncomfortable for some.
Those wires will leave deep marks on ears too.

Noisy neighbors, environment in general like traffic/ trains/ dogs/... or just that damn bird nest in the tree next to your bedroom I've had many bad thoughts about morning doves and about how tasty they would be for an early breakfast

I think there are much better alternatives than these. It's one of the few cases where I think true wireless headphones make sense, day to day there's always the risk of them falling, while in bed it's a major plus not having anything connecting them. There are a couple of very confortable ones too, I like the original Galaxy buds (the ones shaped like beans) for example, Bose also has some very small earbuds though those were restricted to the provided ambient sounds, no customization

I'll sleep more when I'm dead. Then they can put these on me before I'm put into the furnace and face eternal damnation.

Otherwise, I can live with a fan for white noise to help me sleep. Having stuff in my ear generally bothers me.

These are perfect for my wife though, she can listen to her propaganda like she normally does, without complaining to me how her airpods hurt her ears at night.
