Right, so i wanna get a cheap physx card, can i get a 9400gt 512mb ddr2? Will it make any difference to say a 9600gt 512mb ddr3? What counts in a physx card? I forgot to add that the slot that will use the card is running at x4, would it make a difference?

minimum requirement to run Physx is 32 shaders and 256mb of memory(regardless type), 9400 has only 16.
X4 won't reduce physx performence(very limited bandwidth required I believe).

So what would you recommend? 9500? Maybe a 9600gso?

9600GSO, and 4X is not gonna bottleneck the Physx performance.

i'll say get a 9600gt/9800gt atleast.

Anything above Nvidia's minimum requirement should be enough (9500GT 8600GT or better)
I'd say get one without power cable.

Check this.
He's getting a card for physx only, and a vanilla ageia PPU(specs very close to 8400GS I believe correct me if I'm wrong)gives a nice boost already.

problem is if you have a very powerful gpu then a cheap physx gpu gonna drag ur FPS down.
either powerful gpu only or midrange gpu + decent physx card.

DX11 and Opencl = no need for physx.

Don't bump that fast, patience is a virtue.

As for Physx, seeing your questions I wonder if you know why you even want Physx. I'd rather upgrade that 4850 instead.

the 4850 will be going at the end of this year and would be replaced by a 5850. I want a cheap physx card so i still have enough for the 5850. Sorry about the impatience :p

Personally to me this Physx thing does not attract me, Mosheen is very much right about the OpenCl and directx 11.0.

yeah.. Physix will die. Just pocket the cash. go rent some girls of somethin

Well if PhysX dies then that shoots the plan I had all to hell. Recently picked up a second 9800gt for super cheap to see what the whole SLI thing was all about. Planned on buying a gtx285 or 295 after the first of the year and using one of the 9800's for PhysX. I'm still new to the awesomeness of current GPU's and probably should have researched more first.

This is funny kinda. Since sure I am 100 south with there on OpenCL and DX 11, but since there is absolutely nothing built not being build to these technologies even worth checking. It's kinda even more annoying as considering OpenCL being almost basic C code yet noone has even implement video encoder yet.

I actually think as far NVIDIA goes that once again there's gonna be some insane PhysX titles serie on some point to boost their market and there usually will be at least some titles which interests so much to get physX.

Good that Physx is nothing that really matters.
The only thing it does is reduce your performance.

my opinion would be to get at least a 8600gt ,Ive been running ati cards for years but ,i think even opencl or the havok engine will come close to cude physx. So i would go with your plans

The 8600GT is the miniumum requirement now for even a dedicated physx card.
nVidia raised the bar recently so anything below that will not work.
Get a G92 9600GSO, even those cripple ones work well.
It is those 96 shaders that matters.
