Is it possible to use 2 "unlike" processors on this board (ASUS KGPE-D16)...And if so, what do i need to do?

I recently purchased:
MOBO: ASUS KGPE-D16 server motherboard
RAID: PIKE 1078
RAM: 8 x2gb DDR3
ROM: 3 x 1TB hard drives
Optical: 2 x asus dvd/rw
PSU: Coolermaster 1000w
Case: Coolermaster HAF
CPU: AMD Opteron 6128 and AMD Opteron 6134
Awesome system with many possibilities if i can get it to run correctly.

PROBLEM: I ordered 2 AMD Opteron 6128 processors. To my benefit(or so i thought), I mistakenly received 1 AMD 6128 and 1 AMD 6134. Both processors are supported by the ASUS mobo. I called ASUS...They said "We dont recommend that you use 2 different processors" but could not tell me if it would NOT work or if it was just "not recommended".

I called AMD, they said...."It should work, but the FSB speed will only be as fast as the slowest processor.

Troubleshooting: I installed both processors. The system powered on but I did not get a video signal, and there were no POST beeps.

I removed the CPU #2 (AMD 6134) and the associated RAM...the system booted and I was able to install the OS. System works fine with one CPU. To verify that the CPU was operational, I then replaced the CPU #1 (AMD 6128) with the AMD 6134. The system worked fine. However i did have to go to the device manager and uninstall the 8 different instances of the 6128 processor, rebooted and the system updated with the correct 6134 drivers.

SO, Is it possible to use 2 "unlike" processors on this board (ASUS KGPE-D16)...And if so, what do i need to do?

Thanks for any advice or direction you can give.

Try booting with the fast cpu set the clocks to the slow cpu speeds save bios then put in the slow cpu.

I'm sorry to drag up this old thread, but copious amounts of Googling and playing with BIOS settings is getting me nowhere.
I have a similar issue to the OP, but the two CPUs I am trying to use are a 6276 and a 6172 with the same MOBO.

In the CPU configuration section of the BIOS, it says "Able to Change Freq. : Yes" but I am not able to find where I can change the frequency in the BIOS or via jumpers on the MOBO.

Is this even possible?

Personally, I think the BIOS may only be able to handle one CPU at a time. During boot, the BIOS recognises one of the cpus and sets up physical mapping and protocol, voltages, bla bla bla, which doesn't work for the second CPU, so the boot process hangs. May even be true for the OS, see the OPs post about swapping CPUs and having to remove drivers for the one just taken out.

I don't process to be an expert, but that's my take

Looks like I'll need to buy another 6276 then!
I don't even have an OS on the machine yet, with the two different CPUs inserted I can't even POST.

Thanks for the swift reply!

GL, post back if you can

You likely will since Opteron 61xx is Phenom based while the 62xx is Bulldozer.

Almost 100% certain that the chips are incompatible running together

I would of grabbed another 61** unit over the 62** unit.

Why would you recommend the 61** over the 62**?
Phenom II cores tend to run a little better than Bulldozer in most applications.

What are you using the PC for?

Why would you recommend the 61** over the 62**?

Because they are not resource crippled or run as hot as bulldozer, it was only piledriver that fixed most of the issues in bulldozer.

I'm migrating my unRAID machine over to server hardware. The two largest resource hogs for me are Plex and a Windows Server 2016 VM running some gaming (ARK) servers.
