Problems controlling my character in Elder Scrolls Online and other games - Please help!

Hey Guys,

I'm having an ongoing issue while playing games like Elder Scrolls Online.

The problem I'm having has to do with controlling my character while using the 'w' key to move forward. I noticed that if I hold the 'w' key down for a few moments, and then release the key, my character continues to move forward. Sometime my character stops after a few seconds of releasing the key, while other times my character keeps moving indefinitely, until I press another key such as the up arrow. I've notice this problem with other games like Obduction as well. I've tried resetting the OS on my PC, but the issue persists. When I use an external keyboard, I don't have this problem. Here are the specs on my Sager laptop:

Model: Sager NP8651
CPU: Intel Core i7-4720HQ
Memory: 32GB
Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 970M, 3GB.
Mouse: Wireless Logitech M705
Network adapter: Wireless AC + Gigabit Ethernet
Internet Connection: Cable 100Mbps/10Mbps

Any ideas? Please help ASAP.

Cheers,

grecinos

Sounds like a keyboard issue, maybe have a look on their site if they have other drivers or even windows update has any.

I think the keyboard is faulty on hardware level.

Try changing the direction keys to the keys on their right: "E, D, S, F" instead of "W, S, A , D" and see if the problem persists. If it dissapears, then you have a problem with your "W" key. If it continues, then it's an odd problem indeed.

Could be that too, could all so be crap under the key too but if that was the case he would see the issue in notepad and such too.

What is odd is it's in games only he has noticed this so maybe he should try notepad or such see if it shows up there as well.

the problem is you've let your characters become self aware. They are nearly impossible to control after that. jk

definitely a keyboard issue on the laptop you can try cleaning it to see if it really is sticky keys or it may need to be replaced. Using the external keyboard would be the best thing to do while awaiting a replacement.

Thanks for the quick responses!

I did what HTC recommended. I bound the move forward key from 'w' key to 'e'. In this configuration, my character stopped immediately after releasing the 'e' key. While the 'w' continued to have the problem. I guess it's a hardware issue. Glad I bought the extended warranty plan.

Unless you folks have any last minute advice, I'm going to send it back as per an RMA.

Canned air in the keys in case some things lodged in there.

You mean like Cheetos? :D

Seriously though, the key itself isn't sticky. It feels perfectly fine to the touch.

I've since called Sager tech support. They're going to send me a return label soon. Hopefully, I'll get it back by mid next week.

Just a quick follow-up on my situation....

I sent my laptop back to Sager for an RMA repair. I received the laptop back yesterday. They replaced the keyboard. I was able to play Elder Scrolls Online and the movement problem I was having seems to be resolved. Will need another week or so to confirm.

Thanks guys for your input.

Sweet, glad ya got it sorted, made me think when DELL sent some one to fix one of our laptops, i can tell you now if i ever need to get a laptop fixed i be wanting to send it in and not have some 1/2 wit come out to do it.

The guy who came around changed the motherboard and the amount of tim he put on it was outrageous, i even said you don't need a whole tube but apparently they were told they have too.

Never Again.
