Problems formatting Asus Tuf with my own Windows USB

Hi guys

I am new to the forum so I am not sure if this has been posted before. I have an FX553vd which has always worked perfectly but I was due for an upgrade so I went for the Tuf FX505G model, i5 9300, 16gb ram, 1650 and 512 nvme drive which comes pre installed with all asus and windows home bloatware. From the first day I have had this machine the performance is so up and down it is like using an old celeron machine. Armoury crate ramps up from silent mode to performance whenever it feels like it (even with no overheating or games running) and the laptop in general is laggy when tabbing to different apps or browser tabs. The performance can be ok on mains and battery for a while and then it starts acting up.

I reset the laptop to the pre installed windows 10 home and removed armoury crate and all asus addons with still the same problems only using Gforce experience. The issue is now the drive seems write protected so I cant use my own version of windows pro to wipe it with usb (doesnt show under drive options). I have tried to load the drive through CMD but it only shows my second storage HDD. I change the registry entry to remove write protection which did not work (set it to 0) and tried to remove the write protection with cmd but it fails.

Is there anyone that can assist me in removing Asus garbage windows 10 home with bloatware and allow me to see my drive when booting through a USB key so I can install a fresh copy of windows pro?

Any help would be amazing!

Have you booted into the Bios and checked USB is enabled 1st priority at boot?

Hey Caring, thanks for the quick reply :)

I can boot straight into the USB and get to windows setup but it only shows me my second storage drive. I have tried to load it straight from that page using CMD but when you pull up a list of available HDD's it never shows my C drive (where the OS is installed) Its like Asus has locked the drive from Write options but nothing I do can unlock it

Several options here, not sure which one might apply to you.

To just get it to windows 10 Pro, if you have the license, simply go to System, and Change the License to your 10 Pro license (I do that for my clients that are 'side-grading' to Windows Enterprise from Pro).

I've followed this procedure a few times, even if it does see the drive, because it's a nice clean start, wipes the disk completely.

Also, if you've got Win10 on a USB, will it allow you to start the process from Windows?

Edit: something I had forgotten, a lot of the newer laptops are encrypting the hard drive from the factory, which might have the effect you're looking at. Your only option might be the partition management option, if it won't run the upgrade with Windows running.

I'd suggest removing all other drives except the NVMe drive.

Hi Ahhzz

I am not sure I understand upgrading the home option to Pro? All I want to do is to be able to load the win 10 usb which is mine and bomb the pre installed bloatware filled windows 10 home version which came with it. Right now it only lets me factory reset the laptop but thats just starting the same problem over again.

I want to know if I can format the drive and install my own vanilla copy of windows to see if the problem is the software or if their is an issue with the laptop they sent me.

Sorry to be a pain guys, I really appreciate the help!

Hi P4-630

I am not worried about any windows keys, I have a fully licensed version of my own windows pro. What I want is the pre installed windows home off of the nvme master drive (full of bloatware and having loads of problems) but I cant change the drive to read and write (fails) and when booting into the USB it never shows the nvme drive even though its my master OS. Only ever shows me the second storage drive. If I use Shift f10 and try and boot it directly through there it doesnt show me this drive exists in cmd. Its like Asus have locked it so you cant remove their copy of windows.

I dont wanna upgrade it either as its just going to bring the same issues. I just wanna wipe this drive and install my own version of windows :)
