Hi I wonder if anyone could help me with a question.I have to change my agp mobo for a pci e one and i need to know if i have to change my cpu too.The cpu i have now is a pentium 4 3.06ghz 533mhz fsb with ht and i need to know can i get a pci e mobo that will also run a 7800gtx or do i need to replace the cpu with an amd one. Also can anyone tell me what socket my current cpu is.Thanks in advance
Dixsey.

Your current CPU will be a socket 478 item.
You will need a CPU that matches your new motherboard.
You will need a new CPU if you go for a decent Intel based PCIx motherboard.
You will only need an AMD CPU if you buy a motherboard for AMD CPU's.

Either way, looks like you'll need a new CPU.

Yup, if you running 478, which you are because of the 533 fsb, you wil have to change cpu's to go to PCI-E. PCI-E only comes with sockets 775, 939, and some sever boards I think that are like 940. Not sure on the xeon boards though.

But I doubt you will go with a xeon or opteron and also a older fx, so that doesn't matter. ;)

Get a 3000+ 939 Venice and overclock that thing like crazy.

^thats what I was going to do....but i went with the 3200+ 939 Venice just so I dont need to OC as much....I wanted a 3400+.....but im just going to OC to it.

just get a 4000+ it is a 9393 socket. it is a exlent cpu but if u can not aford that you can buy a 3700 or anny intel 775 dont go for bugget cpu because if u are gaming they wont work because of the small cash well thats my 2 cents

3400 is 754... and not everyone can afford a 4000+ Dr.

Let me refrase that...not everyone has the money and those that do may not want to spend that much on just a cpu. Thats better. :)

If you want to go PCI-E you will need a new CPU and motherboard.

For gaming, get an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice core socket 939, and a Nforce 4 based motherboard. DFI makes excellent overclocking motherboards.

3200+ Venice here. Clocked at 2.7Ghz and still at stock!! Totally satisfied.. now.. about that 7800GTX :P

Yup, you can't go wrong with a DFI board for overclocking. Plus they look sweet. :D
