Hi again,in my system information i have a elitegroup L7VMM3 motherboard, the processor is a amd athlon 4 1600+ 1.4 ghz,i want to upgrade the processor,my manual for the motherboard says it supports amd athlon xp/duron processors, what do i ask for in my local pc shop and how big can i go?.

not worth it

i just ddi a quick search and could not find the socket462 cpu anywhere, you would be best off upgrading to skt 939 and getting a 3500+ or better.i am guessing your computer is pretty old.

Surely socket 462 is the same as socket A and there are plenty of socket A processors available...

I'd personally buy online because it would be cheaper but if you want to buy from your PC store I'd ask for a socket A athlon XP, and the best I can find is a 3000+ which would be way better than what you've got. I need to know which country you live in to help you with prices.

For example, I think you could get this in the UK:

I guess they are slightly worse than socket 754 and 939 but if you get a 3000+, that should still work at 3000+ speeds and give good performance I would have thought.

look for socket a cpus that are socket 462 cpus and watch in your bios if you can let your cpu run@166 and or at 200
some boards havent the option to put fsb on 200

but i advise you to buy an 939 board with an 3000+ take an asus a8v deluxe then you can use your agp card
