Opened up the psu to take a look and was pleased to see they used flat ribbon cables. That will make it much easier to fold and manage in the back of the pc.

That is what I thought when cable managing my retro setup. Yes, IDE cables are large, but flat cables can be folded and squeezed into small gaps.

Bios flash seems to have taken...led quit flashing anyway. I'll leave it powered up for a few more minutes to make sure.

Cursory fitting of the NH-P1 brackets and body without a cpu. The bracket spacers are labeled AM4, but appear to be the correct height. Lose the included Torx screwdriver with this cpu and you are SOL lol.

Thus far I am seeing no case interference with the mb back connectors...appears JONSBO did some homework for this.

Even without the cpu I can go ahead and connect everything and cable manage...wish me luck!

No sense spending much time on that. Powered it up and of course there had to be one fan that was not registering rgb...probably have to pull the psu out to get to the connector lol.

The 8700G not being readily available may be a blessing in disguise. I'm beginning to have my doubts about whether the 8700G will be all it's hyped to be. I was thinking more about the graphics side when first considering the cpu, but I wonder just how much difference there will actually be vs a Ryzen 7 7700 cpu. Other than having a higher base clock the 8700G loses out in every other area to the 7700 which will be less expensive by a bit.

Edit: Settled...I'm going with the 7700 as it will suit my needs and is a bit cheaper to boot...maybe.

Turned out to be a defective cable on one of the new Arctic fans...all rgb in action now. I loosely mounted the cooler to get an idea of how it looked and fit. Can't get over how clean this looks with no cables showing and no gpu in my face. Hoping it is as silent as I think it will be. I had the psu in my lap this evening and could not hear any noise at all.

While waiting I took the time to pilfer the 5700G I had installed in the gf's pc and replaced it with a 2400G...she will never know the difference.

Edit: Newegg just now put them on their site. Only the 8700G and 8600G. Interesting that the 8500G was added later and is completely sold out.

Still tinkering with this crappy OS, but I'll get some pics up shortly. Pleased so far as it is dead silent.

I've never had a OS install fight me this much. Spent the last eight hours trying to get this stable with two different OS's and four installs. Whatever it is it is not happy at all. This last install is with the bios at default and is stable for the moment. I'm about to go back into bios and enable XPO to see if it has any effect. All four memory slots are populated and I never do that...no clue if that might be a problem with this platform.

One thing for certain is this will never be a benchmark machine with that Noctua P1 installed. It barely held on for a Cinebench24 run. It does however cool off as quickly as it heats up lol. I'm still digging the silence.



Edit: I mis-spoke about the memory...this board only has two slots populated. I was thinking about the other upcoming build. Any way, as soon as I enabled XPO in bios it began crashing again...resetting to default has no effect and it continues to crash. Guess I can try some different memory to start off with.

I managed to tame the beast up high, but still no XPO. I'll sleep on it and make a decision tm.



Well, 8 hours later I guess it is time to take a look at this memory. I have the memory in the King 95 I can test as well as the memory purchased for the water cooled rig...or I can just leave it alone for awhile lol.

WTF now? Just today the pc started crashing and re-boots to desktop. Took me just a bit to figure out it only does it when I click on a YouTube video. What the heck am I looking for here?

Edit - Went into bios and set the graphics to "game mode"...it's holding for now. This is weird.

Edit - Spoke too soon...it just crashed again. Without a clue here. YouTube voodoo? Wondering if I have to use laptop procedures for this 780M...

Uninstall/reinstall of Chrome accomplished nothing.

Problem seems to be resolved...turning off hardware acceleration in Chrome stopped the BSOD's when playing YouTube videos. I have them running in the background atm and have had zero hiccups.
