I've got a bunch of spare parts which i'm putting together to build a light gaming PC for my nephew. He's 8 years old and plays roblox and fortnite/-type of games.

I'm stuck on whether using one of our two spare lower-tier PSUs or buying new. No doubt these are lower-tier units but it would be golden if these could be put to use with the intended build. Here's what i have:

This is the build i'm looking to put together. I have all these parts already and will be buying a cooler + case.

Will either of the above 2 PSUs do the job? We won't be overclocking but will be adding a case with RGB fans and RGB led strips.

I kid you not, both PSUs are almost overqualified for this, by modern standards, low-wattage build. I'd personally use an EVGA one but this doesn't strike any major difference.

9700KF draws about 100 W in the most intense games (and you can get it to draw about 50 W if you undervolt it properly).
1660 Ti is kicking about 125 W give or take and can as well be heavily undervolted (~90 W) without any performance loss.
RAM sticks are estimated to omnomnom on about 20 W tops.
SSD is 10 W.
Motherboard is 40 W.
HDD is 20 W.
RGB fans and RGB strips combined are usually no more than 50 W.

So your PC will peak at 370 W. If you don't have any "dirty" electricity issues both PSUs will be fine and will also allow for a little room for upgrades.

You might also opt for a complete paranoid psycho move and use both PSUs at once, one feeding the base and the other feeding the GPU which makes mean load even more negligible.

Overpowered that both may be for the build, the Aerocool Integrator is listed as a Tier F model at the Cultists Network tier list, while the EVGA B is listed as Tier E for models up to 600W (that'd make the 700W possibly Tier D).
If I had none of them at hand, neither would be my option. Having them both, I'd use the EVGA without many worries as the power draw would be far from the rated limit.

Get a ~500w gold PSU, these bronze PSUs are mostly shitty

Thank you! Glad these are workable which translates to less expense considering i need to buy a case, cooler, WIFI adapter and the RGB circus stuff. I swear i had a Corsair TXM somewhere... been searching for that baby like crazy but no luck. If i find it all the better otherwise EVGA B1 it is!!

Was also meaning to ask - would this cooler suffice https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product...-se-argb-6617-cfm-cpu-cooler-ak120-se-argb-d6

Can't find its TDP rating but i'm confident it'll handle the 9700K (stock)

I don't see why the cooler wouldn't handle a 9700K. Sure it may not be the coolest or quietest (I can't vouch for any of them without looking out for reviews) but Thermalright has their merits.

Back on the EVGA B1: for how long do you have it? Afaik the B1 is a somewhat old model, and capacitors don't like aging. That's especially true for budget units that tend to use lower quality components. If you do try it and something doesn't work right off the bat, I'd suggest replacing it with a reliable new unit.

get rid of that HDD and buy a smaller SSD instead. HDDs are obsolete for anything but archival storage.

Take the Aerocool and throw it in the nearest bin. The EVGA is not great but should be more than sufficient for this use-case.

There's already a 1TB SATA SSD in that list, which may not be enough for all the games the kid wants to install. A 4TB HDD makes perfect sense for overflow.

The 700 W EVGA B is actually there in Tier C, so that's definitely the one to recommend.

You're right. I focused on the B2 that's listed earlier and didn't notice the B 700W listed at the end.

1TB SSD already in the list for the system drive, applications and games, which is plenty for the nephews current use-case

The 4TB HD will be used by his father (brother in law) for a second media backup location. Mostly family videos and pictures which amount to around ~1.5TB. I've got a bunch of spare higher capacity HD's sitting around hence thought i'd drop in something with almost triple the capacity for the long run.

.....Sure it may not be the coolest or quietest.....
Might be a little loud but you won't get overheating issues.

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

i like quiet... so gonna give him quiet too :) I'm gonna pick up a dual tower peerless assassin/similar and if required push that fan curve a little lower. Just checked on Amazon, its only £32 which is FANtastic. Their current PC, a pre-built old dell dimensions (something) is super loud for a small study room. So it will be a nice quiet surprise :)

no mining here! The MOD XT was extracted from an office PC and the owner left it with me after I upgraded his build. The B1 was purchased for a home theatre build but got scrapped after a year - replacing the large case for a less conspicious SFF build which was more fitting for the media space.
