Hi

i am new to OC,

my pc:q9650 @ stock,cooler master hyper 212 gigabyte p45-UD3LR, saphhire 4870x2, ocz fatality 6400 2x2 gb ram, 700w psu, seagate barcuda 7200.12 500 gb X 2. win 7 pro 64 bit.

I tried to OC at stock voltages by raising the FSB to 400 and rest every thing was on normal.i disabled all the cpu holding features. but my pc did not oc stable. it crashed many times.

i read raising the voltage of ram works , mine was at 1.8v I raised it to 2.0.

now here the problems starts, now my pc starts with corrupted screen at first, and even if window boots the screen is not normal, i tried to go in bios to reset the bios screen is also corrupted ( lot of white rectangles appear i dont know what to call it) i removed the cmos battery, waited fro some time but still things are same. plz advice.

i am just trying to get 3.6 on my q9650, plz give me some settings that will work.

Well, here's just a little bit of general information for your setup.

Your CPU voltage should be anywhere between 0.85V – 1.3625V, as it is the range to be in without voiding the warranty by going under or over these limits. Monitor the temps if possible if you boot into windows, if you can't then I would say monitor the temp through your BIOS. It's a trial and error process. AFAIK the q9650 should be able to clock to 3.6 easy.

The RAM voltage sounds correct, however, try playing around with the CPU settings first, then worry about the RAM. As far as I know, 2.0v on the RAM sounds fine, but I'm sure it will OC a little bit once you start messing with the CPU.

When you raised the FSB did you lower the RAM divider?

The Q9650 is a slammin chip, you should be able to hit 4 ghz with that setup...

here is a bios template for you to fill out, that will help the most, the more we see what you have set the easer it is to help...

also here's the spec;s for your ram so
it looks like that ram likes 2.1v

Model
Brand OCZ
Series Fatal1ty Edition
Model OCZ2F8004GK
Type 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM
Tech Spec
Capacity 4GB (2 x 2GB)

Features Fatal1ty Branded XTC Heatspreader
2.2V EVP
EPP-Ready
Recommend Use High Performance or Gaming Memory

plus what erocker said, as you raise fsb you got to watch your ram and dividers
becaue it all goes up till you drop the divider....

hope this helps.... Rock that mutha

thankyou all

ok i got 3.6 with vcore 1.28, and mch at 1.26 all others are at normal.

the ram is set to 1:1 i.e 800 with 6 5 5 18 @ 2v. if i tried to tight the timmigs as 5 5 5 15 the system creashes may be it does not like this.any ways i am happy.thankyou powerUp guys.

i ran prime 95 it looked good the temp were below 50 for all cores.

i use cpu z and speed fan but i dont know how to see the north bridge temp and ram temp any clue.

also the pc does not look fast in normal applications may be due to loose ram tiimings, wht should i do? i read some where that LLC should be enabled so that pc does not crashes in normal applications is it true ? in my case. plz advice.
