im trying to fix this for a friend. The laptop will not turn on at all. When you plug in the charger, the red light on front lights up, but when i hit the power button, it turns off for a few seconds and then turns back on. The laptop does absolutely nothing. I tested the power supply (2 of the pins have 19.2v, but it drops to 18.7 every few seconds). Also tested the jack to the motherboard, and it is getting power. Not sure now weather to order a new battery, charger, or motherboard. tried all combinations, with ram, without, with hard drive, without, ect.. changed the thermal compound to arctic and still nothing.
btw new charger came in today, and problem continues...

sounds like a hardware fault
best thing todo is to tear it down and check all connections re-seat the cpu, gpu, ram ect ect else order a new board
whats it do if you try it without the battery installed

like one more said plug in the charger, without the battery installed and see if it boots up. That's the first thing I'd check.

Yeah, it sounds like the battery is bad, blocking all power from the charger. I agree with the others, remove the battery and run with just the charger and see if it works.

Tired that already. No luck. I even unplugged all accessories (keyboard mousepad, card reader) , hard drives, and ram to see if the motherboard would beep (indicating its good) but nothing.

Well, testing the RAM is part of the POST (power on self test), so it wouldn't beep if you removed all the RAM too. But it does sound like the notebook is toast. However, it may just be a fuse or fusible link in the power circuit. It might be worth having a shop check it out.

could also be the gpu is toast
you won't know until you get it apart and start looking around

I already took it apart. cleaned it all out, put new paste on. i did run across one forum that mentioned something about the gpu, but if thats the issue the baord would not power on? I mean i understand a black screen, but i would think the fan and hard drives would turn on...

ok i confirmed its the graphics card thats bad. when i took the card out the board turns on. not i cant find the card anywhere. its a gtx 670m. do i have to install the same card, or can i buy a different one?

any mxm 3.0b card will work
its a 1500.00 dollar laptop parts are gonna be expensive

thats the answer i was looking for thanks!

I just want to thank you guys. I had pretty much gave up on my laptop until I saw this post about the graphic card. Since the card is hold by a bunch of screws i thought it wouldn't had moved, but apparently it did, it wasn't even burn or anything I just removed it put it back, did the same with the cmos battery and voalah, my notebook is back to life.
