Qualcomm CEO Expects Chip Shortage To Ease in 2022

Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon has claimed that the global chip shortage is easing with the situation expected to improve further in 2022. The availability of chips in 2022 should be significantly improved compared to 2020 Cristiano Amon told reporters in South Korea on Thursday. Qualcomm has struggled to meet the demand for its smartphone processors which has resulted in reduced smartphone production. The next-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor recently announced by the company will be manufactured on Samsung Foundry's 4 nm node with the yield rate ultimately determining Qualcomm's ability to meet demand in 2022. This prediction is slightly more optimistic than other companies including Intel and IBM who don't expect the shortage to be resolved until 2023.

Yeah, and I'm a unicorn.

how many CEO's have to keep saying this like its really gonna happen while they enjoy higher profits in the current market.

Well, I guess one could argue that "easing" is a long way from "resolved". Both dates could be accommodated on those terms.

Shortages will eventually disappear but the prices will remain the same or even rise thanks to the significant rise in cost of newest nodes.

You know they pay by the wafer. An improved yield helps us both.
thats assuming the wafer makes it way out of the building, just sayin'.

I mean in 2020 everyone was saying they expected it to continue through 2021, and they were right. This is a decidedly different tune, for better or worse. Take that for what you will.

Good news, I was horrified having to use the same phone for a whole year.

Which is why I like Qualcomm. They are like 80s Apple. Nothing is intangible. You may not find it as infinitesimally detailed as you like, but I like things that are tangible and relatable.
