question about ddr2 and standard mobo's!

okay so im looking to get a mobo that says it supports (pc 3200) ram, and i was looking into getting some ddr2 ram (pc2 5300) would it work in the motherboard or do i have to have a motherboard that supports ddr2?

what other types of ram does it support? mine suports ddr2 533 ( http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/915g/index.htm ).

I am not pr0 in this area so I cant answer your question fully, I know it wouldent be working as pc2 5300 if its not a pc2 5300 motherboard, so you would be just as good with whatever the mobo supports, but I'm 100% sure.
I am sure someone will tell you if you can use higher "grade" ram on your mobo.

I would also like to know. good ram costs about the same if you go ddr400 or ddr2800, would be nice to have ram for future use.
 
The new motherboard would have to support DDR2.

You mobo sounds like it is only compatible with DDR400 184pin, DDR2 is 240pin. So the answer to your questions is no.

But you could always get some 184pin DDR500 if you want some faster performing RAM.
 
what differnces would I notice if I got ddr2 533 ram in my computer? faster load times? I'll prob just get another stick of ddr400 for now to make 256x2 +512x2 1.5 gigs, but what are the benifits of ddr2? speed?

Hi,

The current high speed DDR1 modules can reach 8gb/s data transfer rate. I've seen some benches of DDR2 modules reaching up to 12 gb/s. But cheap DDR2 is slow. Even slower than cheap DDR1.

But remember when you fill all 4 DIMM's your RAM will probably run @ 2T instead of 1T and possibly downgrade to DDR333 :(
