So i'm upgrading to Ryzen for cheap, i bought a Gigabyte A320M-S2H which says on the box: "AMD RYZEN DESKTOP 2000 READY" so that means it should run any 1000 or 2000 series Ryzen CPU out of the box, at first i was gonna buy an R7 1700, but i thought it's a stupid idea so i decided to go with the R5 2600, the problem is that in the CPU support list it says that i need BIOS version F20 to run the R5 2600 (and all other 2000 Series CPUs do so) while 1000 series needs F1 to run which is the first release BIOS, the board was bought new so never BIOS updated, am i good to go or what? why does it say RYZEN 2000 ready while in the support list it's listed to run at F20?

Ready could just mean it needs a bios update to be compatible.

If it says "Ryzen 2000 ready", good chances it came with an updated BIOS from the factory.

I'm hoping that is what they mean as well but given how first gen ryzen stuff was all over the place marketing wise I would be prepared for it actually needing the update and just be pleasantly surprised if it didn't

The "Ryzen Desktop 3000 Ready" tag is supposed to be used to indicate out-of-the-box Matisse compatibility, but marketing materials for my B450 board, for example, use the tag in the absence of out-of-the-box support. The examples I have seen all come with F8 BIOS; only F40 and later support 3000. Didn't stop Gigabyte from putting the Ryzen 3000 Ready line on it.

However, if it's a 2000 part on a A320 board, there's a good chance it's ready to go. The only BIOS versions that don't support Pinnacle Ridge (2000) are the first two revisions, F1 and F10. Everything starting from F20 onwards comes with AGESA for Ryzen 2000. Unless you happen to get very old stock (unlikely but I wouldn't wager impossible, given that it's not a particularly popular board), you should be okay. In any case, you can just get a store to update it or borrow an Athlon.

i found this on the back of the box, i think it means the board was made in the end of 2018, right?

Basically, if the motherboard box has this logo you are good to go:

Getting an idea if that is the case from e-tailers might be tricky though. Best to ask.

If the box says 201812 and F20 was released in 2018/2 and F24 was released in 2018/12 does that mean they flash the last BIOS version from the factory?

btw the serial number that is on the board: SN191700031134

That board will run whatever Ryzen 2XXX CPU you throw at it.

Why don't you just... plug in the CPU and see if it boots? Instead of potentially getting worked up for no reason?

why does it say RYZEN 2000 ready while in the support list it's listed to run at F20?
It is common for there to be a timing disconnect between the actual production run of the product, and the printing of the package materials.

Have one of those boards myself and it hasn't been bad overall.
I will warn you the onboard sound is CRAP, you'd want a sound card to go in it if audio quality is important to you.

More or less your basic budget board but it does the job.
Been running mine with an 220GE Athlon for web surfing, posting with it right now in fact.
I'll also mention mine says it's Ryzen 3000 ready on it's box, you should be able to pop a 2000 series Ryzen chip in and go without any issues.

i did some googling, searched youtube comments and i think there is a big chance it won't run and i can't sacrifice, i'm sticking to the R7 1700, the R5 1600-X is just not worth the price, i'll definitely undervolt the R7 1700 as much as i can, btw do you guys know if that's even possible with the A320M-S2H?

"This model can boot up with Ryzen 2000 series CPU with BIOS F1. However, you need to update to BIOS F20, for your CPU to be recognized correctly. F20 can also support the Ryzen 1000 series."
That was Gigabyte's eSupport.

Update: i received my R5 2600 and it ran well without a BIOS update, the board came running BIOS F31 out of the box.
