Question for experts on SATA disks

My BIOS doesn't not recognize my secondary HDD when the SATA port is in AHCI mode but when I switch to IDE mode it's recognized right away

however Win7 recognizes the disk just fine and I can save files in it with no issues even though the BIOS can not read it.

how is this possible ?

In some bios AHCI disks are under a different menu item.

different menu ?

I have a few backup images that I want to restore to that secondary disk

I use AOMEI backupper

the backup image was saved with AHCI drivers from another computer

I get a BSOD when I try to boot up from that disk because it's in IDE mode and if I switch it to AHCI it won't be recognized on the BIOS. LOL

what the heck can I do to sort this out ?

Well you can first clarify what your typing.

You mention windows seeing the disk fine, but now keep referencing the bios not seeing it but you call out AOMEI? which is it?

It doesnt make sense that windows has no issues but AOMEI does.

The bios not seeing the disk is just as I say, on some boards and some chipsets the AHCI and IDE menus are in different locations. As for fixing it well.

You can either

A: look

B: hope they fix it in a bios update.

Neither should affect your image restoration as AOMEI should be able to see it if windows does.

I have No issues with AOMEI because it restores the image perfecty I simply can't boot from the disk because of the BSOD

I do my best to explain this with every possible detail

primary disk = AHCI mode for 1-4 SATA ports = recognized on the BIOS = no issues on Win7

secondary disk = AHCI mode for 5-6 SATA ports = not recognized on the BIOS = however recognized on Win7

secondry disk = IDE mode for 5-6 SATA ports = recognized on the BIOS = recognized on Win7 as well

What SATA controller/MB you are using ?

Screenshots are helpful. Please take a few and post them here so we can see what you're seeing.

OK thanks. problem solved.
I got to reading the BIOS description for the SATA ports. :D

''If port 5-6 are configured as AHCI the ports can only be used under OS with ACHI driver installed
Set to IDE instead of AHCI to access devices on port 5-6 before entering OS.''

I took the disk to the SATA port 4 and now it's detected on AHCI mode
the WinXP backup works flawlessly on AMD hardware even though the image got created from a intel computer

long life to WinXP.
I have zero interest on the modern Windows crap
since 2014 I have been waiting for a decent alternative and the next W12 junk doesn't convince me whatsoever.
