I'm completly new to the new features in the nvidia control panel and in-game overlay.
I'm talking about "image sharpening, filters, gpu scaling, ignore film grain etc..."
In the past I've always done some minimal nvidia 3d settings tweaks (like turning on Vsync, playing with aa and stuff)
AND I'd use reshade (or sweetfx back in the day) to apply shaders and or sharpening...
My friend tells me that Nvidia incorporated a lot of this in their panel and overlay... I tried it and I'm quite pleased with it. Nvidia shadowplay was a nice discovery for me as well. Now here is where I'm confused:
  1. Should I use Nvidia's "gpu scaling" (SQUARE tick box) option in the control panel (image sharpening) OR should I use DLSS or BOTH?
    1. (The more I read about it the more it sounds a WHOLE LOT like DLSS) lower my resolution to then add sharpening and upscaling algorithms to increase performance without losing too much graphic fidelity.
  2. Should I use the CONTROL PANEL version of "image sharpen" OR the SAME filter found in the "overlay" called "sharpen"?
    1. (which can be adjusted on the fly rather than having to go to the nvidia panel everytime)
  3. I'm running on a 3440x1440 ultrawide monitor, should I use the "ultra performance preset" OR "performance" preset for DLSS?
  4. Have you guys adopted Nvidia's "filters" from the overlay or are you still running Reshade instead?
  5. What would be a good "usage scenario" for DSR?
    1. (Isn't applying filters, reshades and sharpening more than enough? What's the point of using DSR?) I NEVER really used DSR...

1. Image Sharpening in Global settings should be off, only use Image Sharpening in game that needs it.
2. Use Image Sharpening in NVCP is the best option, Sharpen filter overlay will cost you some performance (like 5%).
3. Limit DLSS to Quality Mode or Balanced, Performance and Ultra performance show noticeable visual quality degradation at 1080p and 1440p (DLSS Performance is reserved for 4K screen and Ultra Performance for 8K screen)
4. If you like playing with Reshade filter then Nvidia filter just make it easier
5. DSR combine with DLSS make for a very good combo to improve visual fidelity at no performance cost (compare to DLSS OFF), you can try DSR factor of 1.78x + DLSS Quality to improve visual in DLSS supported games. So basically just turn on DLSS in any supported game and when you get more FPS than you need, use DSR to get better visual.
