Questions about RX 5700 XT Bios Flash

Hello! I'm new to AMD GPU's and flashing and I just bought an MSI RX 5700 Evoke OC and did some "youtube" research to learn about flashing the card to the XT bios.

I have successfully flashed my 5700 evoke to the Evoke 5700 XT bios through forced flash through this method from a youtuber which also happens to be the same method posted by a user @eidairaman1

I tried to use the atiflash_293 gui but got Subsystem ID mismatch so I had to force flash through command prompt as administrator. The vbios I used is https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/215491/msi-rx5700xt-8192-190903-1

I had already installed drivers prior to flash and everything seems to be working fine as of right now.

My questions are this:

I made the mistake of reading the details of each 5700 XT bios AFTER the flash. So I seem to have installed a bios that Temperature Target 75c and acoustic target of 2000 RPM. Which since I don't know much about AMD cards, I would see this as being thermal throttled pretty quickly at 75c during gaming. Since I am going for performance, did I make a mistake of flashing this bios that wants to stay under 75c? There is another bios that Temperature Target is 90c with Acoustic Target 2000RPM but it is listed as a Silent Bios?

Should I flash to another vBIOS that has higher thermal limits and is it safe? Or am I being silly and I could just adjust my own fan curve?

Also, Should I reinstall Radeon Adrenalin Drivers after flashing? As I said, I installed them prior to the flash and flashed with them being installed and I seem to be okay?

Thanks for reading!

Did you backup your 5700 evoke bios first?

To me it sounds like when the fan profile kicks in

Look at the amerage and max wattage, 5700 is 165W and 170A, the 5700XT bios you have is 200W and 184A.

You should be ok actually.

FYI only the Sapphire 5700 Pulse can use Atiflash Gui mode due to SubIDs being the same, all others you must use command prompt.

Well I haven't been thermal throttled yet. I am just assuming during a long session, it will start to throttle especially at 75c.

But essentially I should be fine as long as I raise the fan curve to around 80-ish Celsius?

Also does it matter that I flashed with radeon drivers already installed? In the drivers it shows that I have a RX 5700 XT installed.

It is recommended to reinstall gpu drivers.

You should be ok, Look at what I said before.

Good to know, thank you!

I will set my temp target to 80, I should be safe with that.

I am going to reinstall drivers. Appreciate the advice. What cards are you using?

A Sapphire R9 290 VaporX 4G.

I help many flash their boards, whether mintgreen arrow or chartreuse green eye.

Leave tweaks off for now and test the card

After reinstalling the drivers, it still runs great. I am now in the process of tweaking it with UV/OC and memory overclocking. Having a blast but it is scary when it crashes.

I was contemplating on reflashing this vbios with 90c target temp but honestly, I am a little scared to flash twice especially from XT to XT and also if it wants to keep it targeted at 75c, thats no big deal it will save the card from heat.

Thanks by the way.

If it works, don't fix it. AMD cards are famous for their undervolting capabilities since they usually come with high stock voltages.

Is this considered a decent UV/OC? I lowered the volts to 1.119 and raised the memory to 1820 and turned the core frequency down to 2000 but it defaulted to 1999(??) and the junction temp stays at or around 75 which I am assuming is from the vbios flash... it stays cool but surely I am losing some performance.

You could push your memmory to 1820 ? I get glitches on the monitor when raising the memory value ...:(
