I have the Gigabyte z690 gaming x mobo + a new rm850x, but i don't know if i should connect BOTH cpu cables from the psu to the mobo or just 1... Any ideas on that?

Yes, i am going to swap my current psu (550w) with the rm850x.

I honestly tried googling it, but i couldn't find a clear answer (since i am a beginner in the world of pc building)...

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
result for a 12600K
"Should be optional. 12600K is well below the maximum CPU for the socket, and you really only need the extra pins for high overclocking.
4 12V wires should be around 200W capacity before they start getting too warm for comfort. Adding in two more is just to keep the load spread out a little more."

although in my point of view, i would still connect both, but you would be fine with the 8pin alone, i guess

The frequently parroted advice is if you aren’t doing extreme overclocking to your CPU the 8-pin cable is sufficient.

I have both 8-pin and optional 4-pin cables plugged in on a B550 mobo driving a Ryzen 5800X mostly so I never have to think about it again. The CPU will only draw the power it needs anyhow.

1 8pin can supply up to 360 watts or something along those lines. Unless you are using LN2 canisters to cool your CPU, you are fine

Here I am pulling 330 from a single 8Pin EPS on a Z690 ITX :) single is fine.

Since both share the same power plane, the second is just to provide more power (if needed). Officially I don't know what the rating is, but you can just do the math for a cable. 4x 12v using 18 AWG wire (6 AMP), you get 288 watts. That is on the low side (super safe). Higher end power supplies use 16AWG and say 10 AMP would put a single cable at 480 watts on the high side.

Edit: Technically it's the path of least resistance. Meaning both cables will be in use and sharing the load.

Interesting inputs, people. So then it doesn't matter/won't do any harm if i connect both, huh? If it doesn't matter/doesn't do any harm, then i'll do that. :)

If plugging in both CPU power cables was dangerous, it would probably be mentioned in the owner’s manual.

You do RTFM, yes?

In fact, there would probably be some sort of obnoxiously bright colored protective sticker on the 4-pin EPS connector from the PSU manufacturer as well Klaxoning imminent destruction to prevent illiterate slobs from burning the neighborhood down.

What you find easier or better looking, if you aren't doing anything extreme with it. Personally I would plug in one, knowing it's less cable mess, and don't even see it with my AIO.

Yes, that is true; i won't be doing anything extreme. My field of use: live streaming, streaming multiple events, video editing + rendering, web designing, casual gaming and multi-browsing. Ok, so plugging in 1 then. Thanks for the input!

Ya paid for all the cables, so use all the cables. Remember; cables get lonely in boxes too.
