Hello i have r9 290 Tri-X OC.When i plug it in i use 2 External pin connectors 1x8 + 1x8 that i bought from a local store cause my PSU have only 1 6 pin connector and then when i start my pc my keyboard light up after few sec it turn off and then it light up again and my screen is black.

I have a 700W Cheap PSU no 80+ Rating could this be the issue ? or what else can be the issue ? I use a Nvidia 550TI right now with this PSU and it works but this is a way old card that i bought 4 years ago

MY PC SPECS

CPU : AMD Athlon 860k 4.2GHZ (Turbo Boosted)
MOTHERBORAD : MSI A88X-G45
RAM : 4GB RAM (3.96 Usable) (64 Bit Windows 10)
PSU : 700 WATT Cheap Mark not even bronze
GPU : R9 290 TRI-X OC 4GB

Any help please :/

the PSU is definitely your issue. i have seen junk PSUs that were rated at 600 watts but couldn't even put out 300.

can you tell me the exact brand and model of the PSU?

like terroralpha said-a 700watt psu with just 1x6pin =ouch-i think it will not have lots of amps too

high end gpu and cheap no name psu are a disaster waiting to happen...

I agree with the others. A 700 watt PSU with one 6 pin connector probably isn't providing enough amps on the +12V rail for that card. You've got a nice card. I wouldn't take a chance on killing it with a questionable PSU.

Edit: I doubt it supplies 700 watts safely either. I remember reading a review over at jonnyguru a few years ago for an especially craptastic 500 watt PSU that when put under a 500 watt load the thing exploded. Even if you don't get fireworks it could certainly be shortening the lifespan of your hardware by not supplying clean power.

you need a new PSU 100%
before you order any one check 12V rail must support atleast 31A and for your build enough 550-650W psu.

Radeon R9-290 - 31A and a 300W

The PSU would be my first guess because as stated most off brand PSU's that for instance that only have 1 6-pin generally are not meant for gaming rigs. If you take a picture of the side of the PSU with the sticker we could definitely tell you if that is the problem. You may also be able to move the cables around to enough different connectors to make it work for now.

Thank you all for the suggestions im 100% its the psu

Any suggestions what PSU i should get ?? Please no overkill in the price i live in greece and money is the problem :P

dont be cheap on a PSU, that thing is the cause of your problems

Currently i have EZCOOL 700W {Green Power Saving]
Just done a little research and it does not make good reading, I assume it is old because it appears to have been discontinued a few years ago, it looks like it has two +12V rails each of 20A only, in one review at peak load it could only achieve 350W continuous, it was cheap back then, your lucky it has lasted as long as it has!

Oh great informations from you i won't touch this PSU with my new gpu even for tests thanks i just gonna get a XFX Gold 650W or a EVGA one

Also guys do you know why my 4gb of ram are reserved to hardware ?

Any EVGA, Seasonic, Corsair, or Antec 600+ 80+Bronze PSU should suffice.

Couple Examples:

Seasonic 620
EVGA 600Watt
Thermaltake Smart 650
Corsair CX 600

Great i heard corsair is not that good people said i should get EVGA or CoolerMaster

some times ppls surprise me, can afford high end gpu, cpu, super durable motherboard, and cant found some PENIS on good quality psu.

I would stay away from corsair CX series, its a budget psu, if you are lucky :) you can get right one..

seasonic
nzxt
zalman
superflower
be quiet

Seasonic Through and Through, then Antec

Gonna throw my reccomendation out there for EVGA PSU's, even the 500W Silvers are good, I use them in 2 of my other rigs without issue for quite a while now. Probably wouldn't hurt to grab a 600W + if you can afford it.

EVGA Supernova's and XFX Blacks are both Gold Seasonic units if my memory serves me correctly (and it should do as I own one of them!) but both tend to be a little cheaper than Seasonic so a good buy as Ghostrider has already mentioned.

EVGA Supernova G2/P2 are SF Leadex. The new GS series are Seasonic. You remember correctly, all XFX is Seasonic.

@BrutalHero EVGA has a B2 750W. It's a great budget PSU that is better built than any CX series or EVGA 600B.

@zo0lykas Come on, if you're going to tell him to avoid the CX600 then at least show that you know what you're talking about. You don't recommend PSUs based on brands. NZXT is hit and miss. Zalman?? Be Quiet has absolutely nothing special to offer aside from (subjectively) good looks, ridiculously high prices and a stubborn preference for Teapo.

pal sorry my English is not very good, and I cant discus about that in English, but trust me I know a lot about it :) and not only from reading silly comments on forums :)
so we can stop this topic, and let him choice any of PSU from the list.

Im lost what PSU i should buy guys you gave me a lot of psus and i dont know witch one is the best ? Could you push me towards the best one?

Even if the PSU was not the issue it still should be changed for a good brand.

I have had a black screen before and it required to reset the bios.

FSP and Seasonic all the way for me, how ever Seasonic can be found with different names like with some Corsair just takes a little research is all and will save you a few $.

I like going direct which is why i would just buy a Seasonic and have done with it 650-750w range and 850w if you plan a second card.

Pick any of the brands listed as they are all good. I have had very limited problems with any of the brands that have been listed:

If you want help making the decision, think about it this way:

Seasonic is one of the top PSU's, pick it for the highest quality (IMHO)

If your looking for price, Try either the EVGA or Corsair which are both still very great PSU's.

superflower gets my vote.

I think i will go with a Evga one I checked seasonic but they are way over my budget + i live in greece the prices are crazy high
