Hello friends.

I've created a raid 0 with 64kb stripe... I've been testing with 64 and 128 kb and the best results in the bechs were with 64 kb stripe. And now, creating the partitions, I don't know what cluster size would be better... Any suggestion?

The rig will be used for p2p and gaming....

Thanks a lot

Depends on usage, with large files large stripesizes are better. However when accessing many small files you might want to use a smaller stripesize. ie windows has many files under 128K and even under 64K, those files will be stores on a single disks and therefor there won't be any performance increase on those files.

raid 0

for raid 0 u use cluster size 128k

not too sure but i heared 128k is abit better for gaming load times i use 128k

64K exists too, it's a little efficient but chances of the volume being fragmented go up. I even fried an installation doing that. I'm now using 256K.

Remember this: Since your main application is going to be gaming and majority of disk space would be taken up by game resource files that go up into 100s of MB, I'd suggest a higher cluster size like 256K. Too high again messes with allocation efficiency, too low causes frequent fragmentation when smaller files are dealt with, like you mentioned P2P. When dealing with torrents, each piece of the torrent is again made up of blocks that run to kilobytes and are cached on the disk and not RAM when assembling it into a logical piece. In short: You're gaming ans well as P2P, choose 256K like I did.

You have to defrag on a weekly basis :)

Thanks everybody. I read that 128 kb is better for video editing and so... As I explained, my tests give me better results with 64 that 128.... Anyway. My question was referred to the cluster size to set when creating the partition (formatting) not the raid.

Thanks and i apologize for the misunderstood
