Currently I can rate posts with the following:

like - self explanatory
love - basically same as above but with more emphasis
haha - self explanatory
wow - positive surprise
sad - reaction to bad news, usually
angry - reaction to annoying info, usually

This is essentially 3 positive and 3 emotional responses.

It lacks negative responses. What if a poster posts garbage? His opinions are dumb? His information is completely incorrect?

Negative responses would easily fix such. For example:

disagree - if you simply disagree, perhaps without negative connotations
stupid - if you think the poster posts dumb trash/misinformation
shit - essentially for everything else, i.e. an opinion that perhaps is not stupid, but extremely edgy, cringe or otherwise repulsive, or a picture of one's amazing build that looks like thousands of other.

Many people are childish. Others are impatient. I'd predict an overuse of negative emoji's. I'd also predict a lot of reports from people upset about getting 'poo'ed on.

I agree on a 'disagree' emoji (because in the absence of 'like', people often use 'angry' which is overkill). A thumbs down is less emotive than an angry face.

that would be a moderator's job isnt it? to stomp out the trolling posts

Thumbs down would be fine if you ask me.

I'm against emojis in general. This is a tech forum. You can agree or disagree on a topic or statement. What's there to be emotional about?

Names are kinda first thing that came to my mind, you could replace "stupid" and "shit" with a single "facepalm", "WTF" or :kookoo:, I'm not arguing how it should be implemented yet, just the need for something in the first place.

In which case you should advocate for removal of all ratings then.

I think the emoji's are a plus because they save you from typing affirmative responses. Just a like can be a nod in agreement. Similar things apply to the Wow and the haha and the love.

On the negative side, that doesn't quite work the same. Even the angry smily is already on the edge because it raises questions more often than not. Doesn't quite often make a lot of sense either.

Personally I think we should remove everyone but like. The laughing emoji has a tendency to be used as "Wow so wrokg and dumb"

I don't know, if I disagree so much I wanna say something then I'll type it and click "post" but if someone posts garbage or dumb takes then laugh react is already there and it's perfect. And people do get mad if they get laugh reacted too much too, no need for poos and dislikes - just ask around on facebook, haha.

Dont forget to "like" and "sub" to my post.
I hate when youtubers do that. It's a self-evident thing to do if the content creator is good.

This is why I think we should just remove the laugh emoji, and all the other ones. Either respond to the post and explain why it's wrong or leave it alone.

I'm leaning towards agreeing, but only if there's a special MLID emoji to react to anyone quoting that guy. A worthy exception to the rule!

I don't advocate for anything, as 1. I don't own the forum, 2. I don't believe in extremes. Like it was said, the "like" button can show agreement without convoluting the forum with one-word responses.

Wouldn't work. People would just vote up anything that supported their own biases, voting down things that make their own purchase choices or decisions seem questionable.

You'd end up with "low quality" post equivalents for factual statements that made someone upset.

The existing laugh react is useful enough to show mirth at a statement, without being too obnoxious.

It's a better use of time than typing out a detailed response to someone for whom evidence won't change their opinion. Laugh and move on.

I use the laughing emoji for funny posts, but I know, many people use it to show massive disagreement. It's confusing.

Here, have a laugh emoji

Agreed. It conveys the message "I make crappy content, but I have the audacity to beg for attention and money anyway", even if the content is actually good. Pitiful.

I think having to type out a response to indicate disagreement is more useful for the forum. It opens debate and allows for examination of the argument. You don't get to "vote" without having some skin in the game.

Otherwise the forum would just become herd mentality, with no need to justify statements. Some newb could come into a thread, see potentially true information having negative votes, and just go with whatever group think is popular. Better for them to be presented with information they can weigh and consider.

Adding more emojis that can be used within the text box would be better IMO.

Besides there's vote up/down in question threads anyway. With a solved option.

I think the laugh react is for funny posts, not dumb ones. It confuses the heck out of me when someone gives a laughing reaction in the middle of a completely serious discussion. I don't find stupidity funny anyway.

The laugh emoji is often used by people to stir resentment. It's the proverbial red rag (to a bull). When I see it used in heated debates, I find it exceptionally useless and counter productive.

Why are you laughing at opinions though? You like to present things as facts, but they might not be facts, and laughing at people for disagreeing really grinds me the wrong way.

Hence why we should only have Likes, and nothing else.

But you just said

So which one is it? I've seen you use the laugh emoji, and you still write a response.

For me like or nothing. Negative will just get misused if a person dislikes someone, even if the post might be good, they will get a dislike. People can be petty and childish, can't stop that.

"angry - reaction to annoying info, usually"

Funny story: In the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League topic - there was this video where Batman was owned/killed by a bunch of low IQ chars - and reacted with the Angry emote - cause that scene pissed me off. But the one who posted that video - took it personally thinking i was angry at him/her - so checked my info and used the angry emote on my last post - as form of vendetta (payback).
