Hi there,

Just new to Forum was hoping someone could help me out with my problem.

When i go to shutdown on my comp it goes to shutdown then as it has finished shutting down it automatically reboots...:shadedshu

Have tried unchecking automatic restart in System Properties to no avail, have heard that a new graphics card could be a prob but not too sure about that.
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks Peg

a psu is turned when two particular pins are connected by wire or the mobo.

wierd prblem, i guess
1. Power supply is defective
2. your front button is stuck wired wrong
3. psu is not plugged in properly

I'd guess this is a software fault rather than a hardware fault.

Check your BIOS power settings and make sure ACPI is enabled.

could be something to do with dying bios/cmos battery. I had that prob with old comp wich had dying bios chip. alltough i heard today that my uncle has the same problem with a pretty recent comp( about 4 years old) he said that windows xp worked fine, but after he installed windows me the problem started.

like kammster said its very wierd prob, and I never found a sloution for it.

There is one other possibility that the others have not mentioned, and that is a driver issue. Did this problem start after a new driver was installed or a new piece of hardware (with a new driver) was added to the system? There is a problem that dates back to Windows 98 where driver issues kept the system from shutting down completely. If you could add some system specs it would help us a little more.

BTW PuMA, WinMe suxors :nutkick:

also will restart if uninstalled updates are waiting for a reboot to finish installing but i doubt this is the problem

i think t ski got it right as a driver issue

Thanks

Wow, thanks to everyone for the replies,

Well as it turned out we re-fitted the old graphics card and it shutdown as it should but as soon as we put the new card in the same thing happened, so we are leaning towards the new graphics card(old Graphics card fan isnt working on it so tech told friend she needed a new card), can't understand that he would have encountered the same problem. Surely after my friend paid him to do the job he should have followed through with the correct installation.
We tried everything that has been suggested,so rather than us try with Bios etc we told our friend that she should lean on the paid tech to do the job properly. Not familiar with BIOs and are a bit dubious to try:twitch:

Thanks again for the help much appreciated and great forum

Here is a program you can use to remove the old driver files installed on the system:

http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745

Please make sure you have a copy of the old graphics card driver installation file handy just in case it still doesn't work for some reason. Worst case senerio you could buy a new heatsink/fan for your old card, and we can help you figure out which one to buy and talk you through installing it.

I had horrible networking issues. The only time I ever got networking to work right was when I didn't have the WinMe CD there with me to install it. I went through all the steps and it worked just fine. Later I got a new hard drive and thought I'd got through it the "right" way and networking never worked again (at least until I upgraded to XP).

ok, I never used ME so don't know nothing about it...
btw how's that opty u got?? are u happy with it? how does it OC?
I'm thinking of getting opty 170 myself.
