So in a few weeks I'm going to have this Gateway E-3000 system from my mom. Before you wonder what I'm thinking, it's been rebuilt. So, it's currently rocking a AMD Athlon XP 2200+ toaster, 512MB DDR 266, and a ASrock motherboard I know nothing about. Anyhow, I was wondering if it would be worth rebuilding. It has a SATA capable power supply, and I know how to paint systems. All I would need would be a motherboard, CPU, and RAM, plus a new HDD if I decide I want to. What do you think? Bear in mind I do all my mom's computer purchases generally.

Update - Not doing the actual build for a while, but I would need to mod the case, Gateway made the panel INTO the case, which sucks, no problem though I 'll probably just cut the panel out and leave it, because it's not a big deal, and the case isn't a beauty anyhow, so I'll just do something nobody will see but the whole internet

May not be that easy. I think you're better off just getting another case and build from there.

I probably will, around Christmas you can get the Core 1000 for $15, I've seen that

depends on your plans for the system, on whether or not its worth rebuilding.

Well I want a cheap system, I also want to reuse the PSU, plus if I did cut the Gateway I/O Panel out it wouldn't hurt anything really, because the system never gets looked at from the rear, plus I've used systems like that before, it didn't hurt them. If I did replace just what I need I could do it for about $200

The system isn't worth saving even for browsing the internet. Low-end smartphones are faster.

I know that part, I'm tossing the board + CPU, I was interested in keeping the case and mainly the PSU
