I have a Segate Sata Hard Disk with an external enclosure. The hard disk has stopped working(I checked by putting it in the computer). The bios doesn't detect it and it's making noises.
Is there a way to recover it. I've tried Ubuntu and it doesn't start because it has an error detecting the drive.

If the hard drive controller does not initiallize (not ready), then there is no way to perform a software based recovery. The only other method is a hardward based recovery (think clean room).

thanks for a fast reply. The biso takes a long time but still doesnot detect it.

you could try the freezer methode put it in 2 ziplock bags put it in the freezer for a couple hours and hope and pray when you plug it in...if it does work use a program called steller phoenix it does an amazing job.

I think your out of luck. Perhaps if you have the same exact spare HDD or know someone who has, you could swap controller boards and see if that works.

I'm going to try the steller phoenix software.

it only works if your HDD is detected though
It's not able to to detect it so, I'm scanning my internal to see if any are left, it's not a big loss though only some movies. I'll take it back to the shop and ask him to do something(been less than a year and it has 3 years warranty). This is the first and last time I buy Seagate.
