Remote PC control

help dont know the first thign to do

i have a"high speed" connection what i want to utilize and monitor but im not goign to be at the location for a while .. suggestions?

lol yeah, radmin!! brings back memories, i installed the program on my old schools computer systems, was rather amusing taking control from my 56k modem at home real time

the pc im going to be using has xp home so i dont think i can use remote desktop

You want a remote-control ability better than Remote desktop, and one that's both faster and works straight through even corporate firewalls AND is free in the basic version?

I agree that $20 isn't much, however you're missing one thing. And that's the fact that Windows terminal services (which RDC uses) is the fastest solution and costs about $20 less.

Plus, depending on what you wish to monitor, Telnet is far superior. It is the fastest thing there is and allows very simple scripting. The only downside is that it doesn't give you a GUI.



XP comes with a single user terminal server, so that's not an issue. If you really want a 3rd party tool Radmin could be a solution, as could VNC be, never heard of logmein, gonna try that though, I'd be happy to find some fast solution for win2kpro machines.


As for the firewall argument, that's pointless, no server/client can work past a firewall if the firewall is blocking the used ports. (unless they're abusing some exploit or something)

Well telnet was used from us back in the 90s , most people don't even know it exists in windows so using it is hard thats why i mentioned radmin. Its easy , has a friendly GUI and it's very fast.

In this case they'd have to block for SSL-connections, which few firewalls do by default since it's usually used for things like VPN-communications, inter-site communications, secure webservers etc.

In other words, not pointless, but rather one of the strongest points FOR using Logmein. Hell, we use it here at work to remote-control a number of computers out in our branch-offices. Can use other tools as well (SMS Server Remote-control, Remote desktop etc), but one of the main features of Logmein is that I can help users regardless of where I am as long as I have access to a computer, an internet-connection and a web-browser (works in both IE and Firefox, haven't tried Opera). And in comparison to for example default VNC, it's also secure (the default VNC-protocol sends both the traffic and username/passwords as clear text) and works without having to reconfigure the firewalls =)
