OK, does anyone know how to reset the video to default settings in Portal? It cannot be done In-Game because the resolution is currently set too high. The monitor won't support it. Therefore, there is no menu to adjust the current resolution. Any ideas? Is there a file I can edit? I have tried the " -autoconfig" string added to the command line, no dice there. I'm at a loss... Attempting to reinstall HL2, EP1 and Portal to see if that resets it.

THat Hapend to me with Empire Earth, I had set the resolution to one that my moniter did not support so I ended up uninstalling it and deleting all files and folders and then reinstalling.

most games have a config file somewhere, you might try looking in the steamapps folder under your user name, or maybe its got the files in your my docs folder.

The autoconfig should have worked. Add this line instead "-width 1024 -height 768".

After you run the game with those switches, reconfigure the game to your desire res, and remove them...or set your desire res right then.

Right click portal>properties> set launch options>

add this:
-width 1024 -height 768

or whatever dimensions you want.

you can also use -w 1280 -d 1024,i nvr knew you could type the whole words wazzle.i found out how to do it from the steam forum.

Also tried the strings mentioned above (-w 1024) still not displaying. Monitor continues to display "Frequency Out Of Range".

[edit] Apparently I didn't put a space in between the "-w" and "1024" the first time. It's working now... Thanx tigger69...
