Reviving an RTX 2080, bad bios? Something deeper?

Poking @Regeneration ...

I received a broken HP OEM RTX 2080 (https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/hp-rtx-2080-oem.b6679).

If plugged into the PC by itself, it would remain at a black screen, and no PC BIOS logos would show. The monitor would just get no signal (tried HDMI, DP, USB-C -> HDMI).

I've tried externally flashing the bios with multiple bioses in the database for HP RTX 2080, ZOTAC, MSI, etc. The result is always the same.

I've used DDU and booted with my 1070 + the RTX 2080 at the same time. The RTX 2080 will show in GPU-Z as long as the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver is installed:

(Note that in the picture the Zotac bios was the most recent bios that I had tried flashing)

As soon as the RTX 2080 tries to load NVIDIA drivers, the system will BSOD.

Additionally, I have even found someone on Reddit with an HP RTX 2080 willing to dump their bios and it was bit for bit identical to this one: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/220185/220185

I am at my wit's end but I still believe that this card can be revived.

Please let me know if you have any ideas for me to try!!!

How about you try flash the BIOS using this tool: CH341A Programmer.

Windows fully up to date?

Just return it

I acquired it used knowing it was broken. I like repairing things but this is eluding me.

As soon as the RTX 2080 tries to load NVIDIA drivers, the system will BSOD.

My previous card is MSI RTX 2070 SUPER Gaming X Trio which has the exact problem like yours, crashed/artifacts whenever driver is installed. Ended up with RMA since it's likely being plagued by the infamous RTX Space Invaders issue.

I'm using a TL866II Plus to flash the BIOS. http://autoelectric.cn/EN/TL866_main.html

I'm already using an SPI flasher.

Another interesting fact --

Code:
robert@deskcat:~/qclis/Desktop/nvidia$ colordiff --suppress-common-lines -y <(xxd 206642-f.rom) <(xxd asrecieved-trim.rom)
000fb110: 4758 4901 0070 0003 feff ffff ffff ffff GXI..p.... | 000fb110: 4758 4901 0070 0003 ffff ffff ffff ffff GXI..p....

The difference between the rom that was loaded on the graphics card when I received it and this one (https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/206642/206642) is one single flipped bit.

I might try and flash 206642 again and see how it responds in a linux environment later.

Hello, I have the same card with the same error: HP OEM RTX 2080.

There's no picture or display output. Windows has successfully installed all drivers without any issues. The card appears in the Device Manager as functioning properly. However, when I try to read out the ROM, it only shows as "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter." Upon inspection, there doesn't appear to be any visible hardware damage.
Should i try to update the bios directly? is this the Right bios: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/206642/206642

I'd like to share with you how I was able to solve the problem. I had an issue with the 8-pin connector. I assumed that two 6-pin connectors would also work for testing, but that was a misjudgment. If anyone has the same problem, I recommend checking the 12V power supply on the connectors and inspecting the fuses on the circuit board.
