Hello :)

I recently picked up a "defective" asus rtx 2070 super. The guy had issues with drivers crashing when playing games, and also the void warranty sticker was voided, but he never got to change thermal paste. I am now trying the card in my 2. PC. Did DDU first before installing the newest driver and trying the card. I can do the furmark stresstest with a bit of artifacts, but when i tried the GPU burn in test, the program crashed after a few minutes. Drivers are still running and windows did not freeze. I have the pc hooked up to my 4k tv, and with a oooold i5 750 cpu with sata 2.0 its not that snappy in windows. However, when i downloaded GPU Z to check the bios and try and flash a new bios on the card. The bios that is on the card seems to be unverified. Picture attached. Which bios should i try and flash to the card? I have used nvflash way back in the days when i was flashing my GTX 780 cards to unlock higher voltage, so i have tried it before and worked like a charm on those cards atleast.

temps are 65 C ish before crashing. Warranty sticker is broken :/. I will change thermal paste next week, empty so gotta pick up so more from work. PSU is a corsair cx600, not the best one, but should be fine. I deafulted the bios settings on the main board since a 4.0 ghz overclock was enabled.

i would do like ya said -repaste it and inspect if the vrm´s + ram are cooled and if all fails try a flash.

i think unverified just means its not yet proven by a moderator but am not 100% sure.

maybe @Regeneration knows more- TiA

Only W1zzard himself does this.

If you want us to help finding the correct BIOS, upload a photo of the card's model sticker.

Try these two ROMs:

If you get subsystem error, use the flash instructions from this thread.

Clean the card thoroughly, with alcohol and cotton swabs, and then reapply thermal paste.

Uninstall ALL drivers, perform a cleanup from DDU in safe mode.

If you still get errors, and cannot return the card, you can try the oven trick as the last resort, or just send it to some VGA repair lab.

Thank you. I tried with new paste. Still same issue, also i tried to flash the card, but its not letting me. I'ts been a while since i've used nvflash tbh.

You forget to add -6 to the command line.

Thanks :)

Well, furmark froze again and artifacts in heaven. Well well, atleast i tried. Got the card for free so. We do have very very expensive solder equipment at work. BGA machine as well. But i have almost zero knowledge on how to use it. Thanks for all the help, appreciate it :)

You can try to look for a graphics card repair lab in your area, or maybe contact ASUS and see if they can fix it (for a price).

If there are no options left, you can try the oven trick, it will either fix it or damage beyond repair.

I might just try and oven trick. Norway isn't the biggest country when it comes to repairing electronics like this, so. Il see what i can do, might just donate the card to some VGA repair youtuber :p

one last question. Regarding thermal pads. If you take a look at my fantastic paint drawing. I feel like this card has a lack of thermal pads? Also regarding the oven trick, i might try it today, but should i use "hot air" on the oven or under and above heat?

No hot air, just regular oven mode.

Thermal pad looks OK. Just the VRMs (small black chips) need cooling.

Thanks il go pre heat the oven. Luckily we have an old oven which we don't use any more. Perfect for something like this :P

Let the cooking begin

Small update. 8 pin and 6 pin connector almost felt off the card. I will have to reconnect those with hot air at work next week. Will report back results.

Well. Small update. The card does not work. A colleague of mine nuked the gpu with hot air, but did not help. Might try the BGA Machine we got later on. As we work at a authorized repair shop for all the popular brands we got some nice equipment. The guy who tried to solder the card also was a certified samsung l3 phone technician, so he is used to changing flash and cpus on phones. We both are L1 and l2 Asus certified technicians as well, but we dont fix components, so this is a bit new for us.
