Hi all I got a weird problem that just occured with my RTX 3080.

If i boot my pc with any outputs such as hdmi or DP the gpu wont display an output however if i boot it without any cables then plug in my cables it will display and run like normal.

No clue why i even did a ddu wipe and used geforce experience to update a possibly corrputed driver i use three mointors and having to unplug them and replug them back in everytime i wanna use my pc is not fun.

Before this happend i was playing in VR playing blade and sorcery and watched a movie afterwards and shut down the pc as normal. i've also done all the bios stuff recommend by youtube and this has not changed the weird behavour.

any help whould be great as this is weird behavour and thinking is my gpu dying in some way?

Thanks

No idea. Watching this thread out of pure curiosity.

Does it do the same if you boot into the bios?

It's hit or miss sometimes bios will show with no need to remove my cables but then sometimes i need to remove it.

To sanity check i have even bought new cables and plug them in incase one of them has gone faulty and causing this issue and these cables have not fix the issue.

i have also changed pci e power cables with ones left my in my gpu box so there brand new and this also have not fixed it

i also have a RTX 2070 super in the system as a recording/streaming GPU and this gpu does boot right away no issue.

i have also tested my 3080 in a sparce pc and its the same hit or miss with boots with hdmi and dp.

i honstly think my gpu is dying in some way and am out of warrenty am sure.

I also ran Port Royal stress Test when booted in my main system and it ran the full 20 loops and FPS Stability 98.4 % not sure this will help but it does not crash under ray tracing load

thanks

Sounds like a handshake issue. It could be the cable but that does not really make sense. What it could be is a connection but does it effect every single port?

Do you mean just boot your PC without any cable plugged in, then you plug after it load Windows? My 3080 'died' after it loads windows driver and I need to remove the card physically before it being detected again, but even so it still 'died' after some time. I have no idea what caused this too. the DP cable works on my 1070 no problem so idk what's the problem is

Yes if no cables are plugged in it boots with no issue and works like normal.

It only has the issue if i leave them pluged in but windows does load as my vr and keyboard are active and i can even use the vr but it like my mointors are blind to the card

If i leave any cable in the gpu during boot no display the only way am getting output is to put my cables in after boot

Sounds like your 3080 is on the road to hell unfortunatly. If it does the same in another machine it kinda confirms it.

Does it do this with all the DP ports? Did you try switching ports during a no video boot session?

From what i gathed it like all ports are somehow disabled during boot and when windows boots there activated but having any ports in keeps the ports disabled

That's what i feared i might consider selling the gpu on ebay as faulty and use some of the funds off ebay to go towards a 40xx card or get a 3090ti it a shame all of a suddon my card gone like this

I've seen this from time to time. I had it on a Titan XP which would refuse to show any screen till its booted. It was a huge pain in the ass during bios updates as you can imagine. It was simpler to swap to an old 1080p panel just for bios work. Coincidentally the Titan died and was replaced by a 7900XTX and now, like da hell, system boots fine with the same panel. I suspected it was the cable, or this or that, but then it boots fine with a newer card.

@Hazyballoon do you have fast boot enabled in bios? If so, disable it. Youre suppose to turn your monitor on before you boot your tower anyway, so make sure you do that after you reboot the bios. I would def try a rollback of the OS before i said its the gpu at least.

Hi all so i think i fixed my issue not 100% though.

I unistalled my vr software thinking that could be somehow overrideing something as i read on reddit that can happen if oculus is set as high priorty which it was for performace . And after unstalling the software i have had four successful boots with all cables connected so hopefully it working now but still wanna use my vr some hopefully a reinstall of oculus will not break again.

Thanks guys for taking time out your day to assist me it's much appreciated

Thats good to hear! A big thank you to you too for actually returning and giving a THANK YOU to the people who helped and a update of your progress. Most people get their answer, it works and they disappear. So congrats on being one of the few respectful people. :peace:

Had that happen last year, replaced my cable and its been working so far without any prob's..

did u try plugging the dp/hdmi port into the gpu? bc when i got my pc i did not know where to plug it in.
