RTX 3090ti on x58 series motherboard

I know this is a very odd combination, but some videos on YouTube show a rtx 3090 running on x58 series motherboards and doing well considering the age of the platform. Would the RTX 3090ti work on an ASUS P6T deluxe board, combined with an x990 extreme processor overclocked to 4.5GHz?

It should work if your PSU is adequate. It will be roughly the same pcie bandwidth as pcie 3.0 x8 mode.

Also, it will be slightly cpu limited, but in my experience, X58 is still punchy. It's not nearly as bad as you'd expect. I'd still look into a platform upgrade in the future though.

Lacking AVX, and IPC is pretty far behind. Not recommended at all even though it should work.

I mean....if you have a free 3090 Ti go for it. Otherwise your looking at RTX 3060 perf with that CPU (maybe less). The video card is going to pull 450 watts at least under full load. But I think the card is going to idling a lot with setup you have.

Actually even that would get bottlenecked unless overclocked quite a bit. At 4.6ghz a x5675 will match a Ryzen 1600 at best. More likely a 3050 would be the limit.

I was trying to be optimistic lol. While the GPU can handle high graphical settings, the CPU sure cannot for modern games. If the OP put all the CPU related graphical settings to low, maybe it will be okay. But geeez, this is like april fools joke to combine the two.

Jesus Christ, Bottleneck or not Bottleneck, who cares? What does that change, he'll buy a cool card now and then change the rest of the gear. Have you never done any experiments? Why buy something weird and pointless like 3050? If SLI worked on such a 3050, you could be tempted to test, but unfortunately it is not possible.

Just kind of weird to drop fat stacks on such a high-end card (and one that is about to be replaced as the flagship in roughly 3 days, mind you) to use it on a 14 year old platform. I've tested mine (original non-Ti) on a G41 (Core 2 platform), it "works". But i'm not using this card on that motherboard :P

Bruh, chill. Not everyone wants to build a functional bottleneck or test with SLI as you do. The 3050 isn't pointless, it's just a low powered GPU.

Experiments can exist, just, weird extremes in OP's case.

If you're psu can handle the power draw. It should work. But you will have cpu bottleneck and maybe also by only having pcie gen 2 available as well for such a powerful gpu. I would not recommend doing it. You will see often that you can not utilize the gpu to its full potential.

Before jumping to Zen 3, I also had a X58 with i7 980x cpu oc to 4.4 ghz and a gtx 1080 TI. Even with that gpu, I had cpu bottleneck at times in some games. It depends on how cpu and gpu heavy a game is. You would be best of by playing in 4k to have the least bottleneck possible.

But short it should work, but not with out bottleneck.

I have a OC 4790k with a 6800xt, gaming at 4k 120hz. Works very well.

I think the problem with going before that gen is 990x won't have instructions like avx etc.

Socket 1366/1156 was the last without AVX. 1155 and 1150, which is 2-3 and 4-5 generations are on.

5 gen is extremely weird and overpriced&overrated. so useless, funny, if i'm not mistaken there were 2 cpus only lol

3090 TI should work fine on X58/PCIe 2 and actually IF you planning to play games on 4k the bottleneck ain't going to be a big deal as in 1080p because your GPU is going to take bigger hit then CPU ........actually I believe that you ain't going to see a big difference when it comes to the FPS between 4k/1440p/1080p on that platform with that powerfull GPU.....GL

Got to look up some compatible game lists or just try everything as you go along.

I'm the type that does weird combinations with my other systems too.

Would it work?
Sure.

Would it work great?
Not really.

It'd be up to the specific programs and applications, for example the original CS 1.6 would probably run at 20,000 FPS - but modern titles needing modern instruction sets would always end up CPU limited, if they work at all.

It's certainly going to work as well as that CPU can deliver if you have long term plans to upgrade the CPU/mobo/ram in the future.

AVX 512 was removed from later Alderlake.

I have similar motherboard and processor, P6X58-DE and W3680 (980x). The overall setup greatly benefited from the addition of a Samsung 950 Pro 512GB on a PCI-E riser card, you can actually boot off the Samsung 950 Pro SSD because it can emulate legacy boot. If you can find a 950 Pro for $50-100 and you want to stay on the X58, I'd recommend it strongly.

Hi

I have a ssd but not on a pci-e riser card. Been thinking about it though. I have a 1200W Corsair psu so power should not be a problem with the GPU. The lack of AVX support has slowly become an issue with some recent games not running unless your processor supports it. Currently I am in the process of immigrating, so spending money on pc parts is not a priority, but this deal seems to good to ignore.

I can understand the temptation if the intent is to upgrade the whole platform in the near future, if not then it just feels like spending lots of $$$ for maybe in reality RTX3070Ti performance, so being as unadventurous as I am I would be tempted to save the money and buy the 3070Ti (or similar) instead :)

Yes it will work if your PSU can handle it as R-T-B mentioned but your old CPU will be a major bottleneck. Gaming at best @ 4K then.
If you do it, you should save up for a platform upgrade imo...

If you plan to keep your X58 system for more years to come, it's not worth it to buy a 3090Ti imo, then better buy a 3050 or alike.

It has to be Samsung 950 pro, other NVMe SSD will not boot on X58.

Broadwell was more mobile and server. Two chips were made for desktop consumer.

And the only CPU gen with "eDRAM" if I'm not mistaken.

eDRAM (embedded DRAM) is a capacitor-based dynamic random-access memory integrated on the processor die.

Indeed.

Yet, out of the quad-core performance mainstream segment CPUs from gens 2-7, it was probably the one that aged the best out of the bunch, with its performance quite close to an i5-10600K in gaming. Reason? Same as the 5800X3D. Games at the time didn't really require so much bandwidth which is why the 4790K usually came out on top due to raw frequency alone, but the 5775C has aged exceptionally well.

I should clarify I was thinking of a good ol' water cooled X58 I had that could OC.

Yeah, stock is gonna hurt.

AVX 512 is a seperate issue.
