This may be a weird question but is it possible to run 2 games at the same time if you have (like in my case) 2 monitors, a discrete gpu and an igpu?

1 monitor is connected to the hdmi on my motherboard and the other is connected with dvi to my sli config.

I have a few games that do not require a lot of gpu power such as Dungeon Defenders so i was wondering if i could do my setup for farming gear in that game running on monitor 2 using the igpu and play a different game, say Borderlands 2 on my main screen with the discrete gpu.

In the nVidia cp i have no option to select which gpu to choose. I've been searching for days but no answers yet.

well it's important to recognize what you are actually doing. running two games at once will be using your system ram and your cpu. the chances of getting both games as smooth as you want isn't high, but it's possible.

with a single gpu it's possible. you are talking about running two programs on two different screens. some games will work differently, some will pause background activity, mute it, or just turn your second screen black. this is up to the game. if the game works well in a multi-windows environment, then you shouldn't have much issue there. then just hook each screen to a gpu and manually move the window to the screen you want.

note that if you use either screen in "Fullscreen" mode, then you will be SWITCHING applications when you click from one to the other. whereas in window mode they are more likely to run TOGETHER. again that will depend on the game.

You can run 2 games at the same time, but AFAIK you can only play one at a time.

Good call, I was thinking in terms of fullscreen mode where you would have to alt tab between windows. Windowed mode may work.

yeah that's an important mention fx - most farming that I know of requires repetitive keystrokes, etc. when you are in your MAIN game, your keystrokes will not be sent to the second. if you use a type of hotkey program, it will focus on the window you are using, which again means the second window won't see the keystrokes.

this will only be useful if you can farm without pressing any buttons, or don't mind switching back and forth and back and forth.

The problem is that i can't choose for game A to run off the igpu and run game B from the dgpu.

yes you can. that's as simple as what gpu is hooked to what display. you need to put both games in window mode and move them to the respective screen->gpu combo that you want to use. you could also switch your default screen and any fullscreen game should start on that, but that doesn't always work.

so if monitor A is plugged into GPU A you need to move game A's window to monitor A and then it will be using GPU A to run.
