RX 580 crashes with any non-default clock/voltage

Hey all.
I've run this 580 for years undervolted and a minor overclock but recently it just started black screening. Now it runs fine for hours no problem but any time I try to apply new settings it crashes within a minute. Flashes then black screen needing hard reset. This happens with any change to voltage or clocks, even just 1mV or 1MHz up or down and it fails.
I can change fan speeds and memory clock and it accepts the new profile but any change to core clock or voltage crashes. All changes are made using amd adrenaline tuning section.

I've tried flashing the bios but it says this bios is already installed.
This issue first appeared on driver 23.9.2 but persists after rolling back to 23,9.1 and 23.8.2
I reinstalled the newest version windows 10, even reinstalled to a brand new ssd, I took the card apart and cleaned it, it still crashes.

Can anyone help figure this out? The 90mv undervolt really keeps the noise in check.

That gpu is starting to get old. It is possible that it has started to degrade just a little, so it is no longer stable outside of stock settings. But it sounds weird that no changes at all will work. You have done all the reinstall OS/drivers steps. So my next step would be trying with some other software, I believe MSi Afterburner should support that gpu for example. Instead of using the built-in clock tool.

Yeah I'll give that a shot. It was afterburner I used when I first got this GPU, then a driver update stopped it from controlling the fans so I just used adrenaline instead. That was a couple of years ago, I'll see what's up now

...

Ok, so afterburner applies new settings just fine. It can even control the fans again. If I close it the clock changes are saved but the fan profile reverts to default but thats fine.
This makes it more confusing, why did adrenaline stop working? Why doesn't it work after reinstallation of windows and different driver versions, when those same drivers worked for weeks. It's an odd one but I guess I'll leave it there since it's mostly working.

Hey,

I was having the exact same issue with my RX 580 8GB on the latest driver (23.11.1) and I've found a solution. I went all the way back to 23.5.2 and installed each version one at a time until the issue reoccurred. 23.8.2 worked for me, and 23.9.1 failed. These steps should get you as up to date as possible while still being able to use adrenalin tuning:

1- Pause Windows update and disable the automatic download of manufacturer apps. (Advanced system settings -> hardware)
2- Use DDU (display driver uninstaller) from safe mode to remove the AMD driver, clean and restart.
3- Download and install 23.8.2 from the AMD support page for your GPU, where it says "previous drivers."
4- Re-enable Windows update and automatic download of manufacturer apps.

Hope this helps!

Could it be this known issue? This issue appeared in 9.2 so just a suggestion. (I know, because it happens to me.. *sigh*
