Hi guys, I've been having headaches with my Rx580 4gb sapphire pulse.
I got it used from facebook marketplace, listing said that there were no major issues and that it failed a furmark test but it posted and displayed video.
I bought it and yes, it worked. But then one day when i booted my pc, it didn't display an image and so i booted thru my IGPU, updated my AMD drivers, and mid downloading the installation crashed.
Fully froze my pc had to force restart by unplugging pc from the wall.
Booted back into windows, Gpu was not detected ( at first )
fans were spinning and card was also heated up.

Tried some different stuff, Got it detected in device manager, fans spinning, but still wasnt able to download drivers, kept crashing every single time.
I tried reflashing BIOS of the card, tried removing drivers with DDU 100 times, still same result.
Made posts on R/Amdhelp and AMD forums which kind of lead to nothing. Reddit post here

I dont know what to do, card was working fine, stopped working, tried many things,
what else can I do / try.
If anyone knows how to solve or what the issue is please tell me. ( my pc specs is also in the reddit post, I am too tired to list it in here )

Hey guys, This is an update to my old post which was kind of sloppy and informal.
So this all started about a 2 weeks ago, I got this card ( RX 580 ) second handed, plugged it in, downloaded drivers.
And it worked great, Ran games, computed, AMD software opened and all that.

And one day I turned on my pc, And it black screened when it reached the login screen, Thought that was weird so I rebooted, same thing.
Unplugged GPU, booted again and deleted old drivers, Turned off pc, plugged in GPU and booted again.

Ran the AMD driver installation, Then out of nowhere my pc freezes when downloading, Wasn't able to use power button so i unplugged it from the wall.
Tried reinstalling again, same thing happened, crashes when downloading.

Reached out to reddit, Tried fresh install of windows, Didn't help.
Tried reflashing BIOS, also didn't help.
Reflashed Mobo BIOS, didn't help either.

I was completely dumbfounded, Tried everything and nothing was working.
In safe boot, it shows up as Microsoft Generic Display Adapter, When downloading drivers in safe boot the pc doesn't freeze / crash
But when getting out of safe boot, it black screens.

Im super confused why this just randomly happened without warning, just out of the blue.
The fans are spinning and its picking up in device manager, but i cant download drivers or use it outside of safe boot.

I'm really sad that all this happened cause i was excited to finally play games i've been waiting to play forever.

List of things I've tried doing ( to hopefully fix the issues )
1. Windows redownload ( Didn't fix the issue )
2. GPU BIOS reflash ( Didn't fix the issue )
3. Motherboard BIOS reflash ( Didn't fix the issue )
4. DDU driver uninstaller ( Didn't fix the issue )
5. 3'rd party drivers ( Nimez / Amernime ) ( Didn't fix the issue )

You can also read my reddit thread about this for more info / steps i tried Reddit post here

TLDR,

Reseat the gpu in the motherboard, aerocool makes good cases but powersupply quality is abysmal.

Get a pic of the white sticker on the side of gpu heatsink by pcie blade connector. You will need to pull heatsink and get a pic of a ram chip please.

Most likely you bought a mining gpu.

Lesson for you, DO NOT BUY PARTS FROM FACEBOOK/CRAIGSLIST as there is no recourse for returns like there is on ebay or amazon.

Ok thanks You have Elpida BABG ram

Anything I should try?
And do you know what may be causing the issue?
I've been looking into reflowing the gpu, Should I do it?

listing said that there were no major issues and that it failed a furmark test
If it fails Furmark, it has major issues.

If it fails Furmark, it has major issues.
I mean, Right now it wont even display image
cant even run furmark to test ( in my hands )

But yes, he said it failed furmark and i didn't know if it was good or bad ( since i didn't even know what Furmark was )
And what issues could be casuing it to fail furmark?

Let me do some data processing

So you had the monitor hooked up to the gpu directly and it was putting out an image before?

Reseat the card in the slot and plug monitor straight into it. If it doesn't work, try another system if it doesnt work in that different system its possible the card died.

Only option left is to attempt a bios flash and I already have files ready for it.

Hey, no.

Before all of this was happening i had my video plugged in thru the motherboard ( and it worked )

Also I just noticed something looking through my pictures i posted.
And i saw a little piece gone from the pci-e
Can this be causing these issues, im guessing not right?

Ok well that indicates the gpu is not working.

Ok with your monitor hooked up to the motherboard, and the gpu in the top slot, open gpu-z and select the rx580, get a screenshot

What i've noticed is if it doesnt have drivers ( microsoft basic ) it will launch into windows with no black screen.
When it does have drivers downloaded ( even by windows ) it will black screen.
During the driver installation process, the pc will crash 10/10 times,
Any ideas what could be causing this?

Ok heres the problem the wrong bios is for sure on the card (hence why it doesnt power a monitor and ram shows auto detect)

And the clock speeds are both 0.

You will do a bios flash using files I locate and a flash utility with instructions

Get this file, there is nothing newer than this 1.

Download atiflash/amdvbflash 2.93
Go here https://www.techpowerup.com/download/ati-atiflash/

Then look for Version 4.68, underneath 4.68 you will see a link to show older version, click that and you should see version 2.93

Then

Follow these steps carefully:

1. Open your "C:" drive in Windows, create a new folder, call it atiflash.

2. Extract the contents of atiflash_293.zip to the "C:\atiflash" folder

3. Find the bios file you downloaded and rename the bios file to biosname.rom

(Biosname.rom is just an example, change it to match your card model in 5 characters with .rom on end)

4. Move biosname.rom to the "C:\atiflash" folder

5. Open the start menu, type cmd, when cmd.exe appears right click it and hit "Run as administrator"

6. At the command prompt type in cd\ and press enter until only C:\> is on the screen.

7. Type in cd/atiflash and press enter, you should see C:\atiflash>

7a. At C:\atiflash> type amdvbflash.exe -i to identify which number your 580 is tagged with (0, 1, 2 etc) you will use that number after the commands below

8. At the C:\atiflash> prompt type in
amdvbflash.exe -unlockrom 0 (or 1, 2)
(there is a space between the e and -unlockrom and 0)(0 is the number zero)
press enter and you will be prompted that the "ROM Unlocked"

9. At the C:\atiflash> prompt type in
amdvbflash.exe -f -p 0 biosname.rom
(there is a space between the .exe and -f, and a space between -f and -p and 0)press enter. (Or 1, 2)

Follow directions on screen and if flash is successful exit the command prompt and restart, windows should show up on screen

That's what it's telling you to do yes.

So I just flashed it and it said this,

Okay, I just restarted my pc,
It booted in just fine,
Do I download the drivers now? Or what are the next steps.

You should be able to do a clean driver install and connect your monitor to the GPU now if all went well.

Open gpu z get a screenshot

Here is the screenshot

Edit : Just reinstalled the drivers, It did not crash during the installation which is not normal, usually it will crash at some point.
Restarted my pc, and it blackscreened, then a few seconds after, bluescreened ( the happy face one )
After that was done, booted in again, when i got to the login page, it blackscreened again ( didnt bluescreen)

After flashing a verified bios you still are getting autodetect which tells me the card is toast unfortunately.

Time to grab a rx 6500 or 6600

And only buy from amazon, do not buy from facebook or ali express (Return policy security)

Your clocks read 0 and your fill rates are empty, it seems to me at first glance that your drivers are wrecked. How are you reinstalling them?

Hey, So i installed the drivers from here
Since the drivers from AMD websites make my pc crash.
Nimez also doesn't make my pc crash but i couldn't figure out how to PROPPERLY install the drivers since there isnt really a clear in detail tutorial i was able to find.

Error 43 after installing correct bios which contains elpida babg ram tells me the card is broken.

Its still showing autodetect which after flashing the correct bios to it should of changed to elpida, the card needs a repair and Id say its better to consider upgrading

Damn, Havent even enjoyed any games on it and already need to replace it.
I guess I learnt my lesson to not buy used cards...

I would avoid buying any hardware from facebook marketplace.

Even ebay has buyer protection
