RX 6800 causing stuttering when typing text (Low 2D/IDLE Clocks?)

Hello,
I have a really weird problem with my GPU.

When i am typing text in some web applications, i feel slight stuttering
When i am starting to type text, stutter is almost not visible, few seconds into typing and it's starting to get worse.
I feel like this stutter is almost on every website, where you have input for text.

I cannot record it - you will not see it, you just feel it when typing and looking at screen.
There is slight delay, that you not exactly see, but feel, it's getting me out of flow.

What does help?
Grabbing the browser window and waving it around for a while, then i can type smoothly for next few seconds.

I am 99% sure that it is a GPU issue.
Why do i suspect GPU? Clocks are insaleny low and they are jumping at around 0-200Mhz for graphics clock and same for memory clock.
Turning off ULPS caused only to get some higher memory clock - God only know why it is boosting and when (sometimes its boosting to for ex. 1900 on desktop tasks - i see that when this value is higher for a while, stuttering dissapears)

There are no problems in gaming - everything is smooth, i don't feel also any input lag.
There are no problems with anything else - i just feel that GPU is going lazy, when nothing is going on the screen besides typing text, i feel like clocks are too low for that.

Is there any way to get off these nasty power saving features?
I remember on nvidia cards you can just set max performance and the clock is on maximum.
I spent too much money on my PC to use only half of it and look for some stupid few dollars savings on energy.

Please, help me, this is driving me crazy, i really spent almost 1500$ for a new PC and this problem still occurs.

All drivers are up to date - chipset, LAN, Audio, GPU.

What i did?
- Bought a new PC (this is not a joke)
- DIsabled ULPS (it is a little bit better as i said)
- Checked with different USB ports
- Tried Adrenaline PRO drivers
- Tried different browsers
- Tried disabling hardware acceleration in browsers
- Tried different monitor cables
- Tried different monitors
- Tried turning off all monitors except for one
- Checked with different keyboard
- Checked with latencymon - no CPU latency, max latency is 120us after 1 hour of running
- Checked temperatures - everything is okay
- There is no CPU overclocking
- Tried stock GPU settings in adrenaline and overcloked
- Disabled and Enabled EXPO
- Tried different timing modes for ram (Default, Competitive, Aggressive)
- Disabled/Enabled SMT
- Tried changing keyboard pooling rate to 1000Mhz
- Tried Windows 10 Home
- Tried to use Linux (Debian and Ubuntu)
- Tried different computer (my old computer)
- Tried different PSU
- Updated BIOS from 2.02 to 2.10 (latest no beta)

Can't you use the graphics card from your old system or borrow one from a friend for testing purposes?
What happens when you run a video or a game in windowed mode? Do you still encounter lag?

I own the same graphics card and had to RMA it last year after owning it for only three months. After I got the replacement card it would do the same thing your experiencing until I started using Adrenaline pro driver software,it works fine now. Amd doesn't support this card a hole lot it wasn't a big seller thats why they have so many left and because of that they don't put much effort into this card. I recommend returning this card and spending more and buying a 7900 gre. I don't recommend xfx brand cards. This will be my last xfx card I purchase.

If it is downclocking (a common issue on RDNA based GPUs), try this, enable instant replay video recording, and record desktop.
That should force a higher vram clock speed, may be enough to stop the stuttering.

If the problem persists like that, it's something else.

I feel like activating screen recording helps, so, what can i do with that?

I own the same graphics card and had to RMA it last year after owning it for only three months. This could be an issue with the Pro drivers. Those are not for Gaming scenarios. Your downclock may be a feature of the driver itself. Try using DDU and remove all of the Pro hardware and get the regular Adrenline software package.

I have a fresh windows 10 pro install with normal adrenaline drivers right now. Tried PRO version before and it didn't help.

I don't have problems in gaming - only when typing text when GPU is idle

If the card is faulty you still need to RMA it

If there's nothing i can do i feel like i will say goodbye to AMD and just get an NVIDIA card.

Could also be caused by XFX and not AMD

No, i haven't contacted them for now - i think its worthless, i have experiences with other manufacturers - they just dont help.

I was thinking about it, but i was never reflashing bios on any GPU, i really don't know how to check my actual bios version and how to be sure that new bios is not badly modified, if you could give me any insight into this, i would be grateful.

7-10 days usually although i am in the US and they have always been top notch on RMA and known them go beyond when they used to do double warranty's.

Disabling power saving features would not actually solve your issue, only mask it. You should want to get to the source of the issue.

Low and variable clocks in 2D mode is pretty normal. 0 though is not but how did gather this data? You should have HWInfo graph the GPU core clock and then take a screenshot of that.

Even among budget PSUs, Aeris from Hardwarebusters (who also does certifications for Cybernetics) said that he would outright not recommend it. It's an outdated platform in a new shell and outdated platforms do not tend to handle the lower power saving modes of new components that well and often have signficaintly worse performance in lower power scenarios as compared to current gen products. Your PSU has four times worse ripple than a decent power supply, exceeding 100 mV in testing. Your GPU also has transients up to 486w (assuming base spec, OC models will be higher than that). To me this seems like a very bad combination. I've seen this kind of stuttering issue on client systems before and while it could be the GPU I'd definitely also consider the PSU as a potential cluprit here. I would never pair a PSU that low quality with a system in this price range to begin with. Not worth the risk to save $30 USD.

Yes, my problem is mainly typing in web browsers - doesn't matter if it's search bar or text input on websites (on webstites with a lot of scripts it tends to be a little more laggy)

I was aware of how a good PSU is important - to be honest i wanted to buy 700W PSU, but i made a missclick and here we have 650W

I must admit that i know that it's not the best PSU - i was deceived by brand name, in my mind Be Quiet was a solid company, i also saw a lot of good reviews on websites that i was looking for my pc parts.

After my setup was finished - i stumbled upon articles about this PSU and how low quality it was, but it was too late.

Turns out, you can't really trust nowadays any manufacturer and opinions.

It's either a problem with the card itself, or a problem with how AMD handles downclocking on RDNA cards, it gave us lots of problems on my old non-Nintendo-happy job.

Open a report to AMD via the driver.

That's just stupid that i cannot disable this downclocking feature, to be honest that's not what i wanted when buying gpu, if i wanted to save power, i would use integrated GPU instead.

But as many of forum members already told you, we suggest to RMA it.
But that is up to you.

But if you don't try, you don't know is my motto.

No pro drivers work just fine for gaming and is actually more stable than Adrenaline drivers. His card is probably faulty.

Xfx is not like that anymore. I Rma my Rx 6800 to them last year it cost me $30 to ship it to them and they sent me a old used beat up Dusty card with glue residue all over it and it took them about 15 days. Maybe in the past they were good but not anymore. A lot of people experienced the same problems as me recently and it's because this card from xfx is garbage.

Are you sure it is on performance mode since I think you have shared the quiet bios? Can you share the other bios as well?

Trying the iGPU is a great idea! @xKempo can you remove the card and only use the iGPU?
