I upgraded from a RTX 2070 to a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 9070 (not XT). In any game, it's fine in the menus, but once the game loads, the computer shuts off after 2-3 seconds.

The power supply is an older Seasonic Platinum Fanless 460W, and the CPU is a Ryzen 9600X (65 W). I'm aware that 460W is less than they recommend, but the TDP of the new card is similar to my old one, which was stable.

What confuses me the most is that I can run Furmark 2 without a problem. The card reports running at it's maximum power limit of 245 W the entire time. I can also run the CPU stress test at the same. However, in AMD Adrenalin if I run the stress test, it also shuts off almost instantly. What's most likely the issue?

Exact same GPU here. :toast:

You'll just have to buy a stronger PSU and cancel out that possibility first. Only then can you properly diagnose if the issue is something else.

Had my own problem with my 9070 turning off after crashing. The crash itself was a game issue but the card wasn't getting enough power to sustain itself during the crash and was turning off. After upgrading PSU, the game still crashes but the GPU no longer turns off. :)

It's your PSU. It's just too smol.

Furmark is considered a power virus and most-all modern cards have protections against such. Games OtOH, do not have such protections.
450W-600W transients (millisecond-scale current excursions) are common these days; you need a new PSU.

Sounds like a PSU issue. Games cause transient spikes with these GPUs that older PSUs can struggle to handle.
Looking at the power consumption measurements of the TUF OC review and Steel Legend OC review, there are spikes of 45 W and 108 W above the TDP respectively. However, those spikes were measured in Furmark, and not any of the games. This is the opposite of what I'm experiencing.

I have a RM750x on the way to help troubleshoot this.

Since you have the same card, what is your experience like with the coil noise? I found in Furmark it was reasonable, but still louder than the fans. In the 2-3 seconds before games crash, it sounds like herd of pigs being flogged.

I didn't even notice it until you pointed it out here. I just opened my case to listen out for it now. It's there but not audible.

I used "Fan Control" to turn off every other fan except the GPU. The GPU coil is louder than the fans until about 50% fan speed but again, that's with me listening out for it. It's still rather quiet so I don't actually hear it when I'm using my PC.

Definitely nothing like a herd of pigs being flogged. :twitch: If yours is really that bad I'd message Sapphire for a possible replacement.

Very strong signs of ripple and/or low voltage from an overloaded PSU. That's rough on components, but should be fine once your rm750x is installed.
