Samsung G7

My mate and I both have the G7 monitor, he has the older LC32G75TQSRXXU and I have the newer LC32G75TQSPXXU, they both have the same specs. We both have identical computers, exact same components, same BIOS settings, same Win 11 GFX settings, same Nvidia settings, same monitor settings and same in game settings. When we play Warzone, he is getting around 190 FPS and I get 150 FPS, playing ARMA 3 Prairie Fire, I get around 60 FPS and he is getting around 80 FPS. I am stumped, I even turn the ARMA 3 settings down and still cant hit 80 FPS. I am returning my G7 due to a dead pixel and what sounds like arcing coming from the monitor and worried about it catching fire. I am reluctant to buy another G7 because I don't want the older model and the newer model seems inferior. Does anyone know if the newer model has a better panel and that's the reason for the lower FPS, or is the newer model just worse. I wrote to Samsung and all I got was

" You bought a LC32G75TQSPXXU and your friend has an LC32G75TQSRXXU. The model number is only one digital difference, but it produces a further 20FPS than the one you purchased. We hope this clears the air".

Not the most informative answer I have ever received.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like Samsung updated the hardware in the monitor with the new version, that is not always a guarantee for an improvement. May have to do with cutting on the producton costs to use cheaper components, but then again can be speculation on my side.

To eliminate further quess work, try to switch the monitors for testing. You use his monitor and he uses your monitor. then check again if you have the same difference in FPS. If so, its not the monitors and you have to search for other variables.

One (maybe not so) foolish question from me: are your conditions the same as your mate's, specially temperatures (ambient and hardware)?

My mate is in Northern Ireland and I am in Yorkshire, so no go on the monitor swap, I am tending to lean toward the cheaper components, because the older model is still selling for £80 more than the newer model, same with the G5. Its a shame because it is a beautiful monitor, but I would be forever asking my mate, how many FPS are you getting, then feeling duped because he is rocking 30% more than me. A bit shallow on my part I know, but I am Yoda and he is my apprentice lol.

At least you did not loose your sense of humor.

But I doubt it is the monitor, there are a number of other variables that are more likely to an impact on the performance. Before your post I never heard that a monitor has impact on FPS, only a maximum it can generate. If a monitor does have this impact on performance, there would have been numerous threads on this topic and countless comparisson tests because some people always want to have the fastest system.

Like wNotyarD already pointed out, temps have a big influence, think of throttling of CPU & GPU. Did you apply the thermal paste exactly the same way, is the placement of your case comparible with the one of your mate (free airflow)?
There is also the matter of silicon lottery, same type of chips do not guaranty same performance. Some are better, some are worse, not the 20 to 30% you experienced, but adding up small discrespancies can make a difference.

So my advice is to run extensive testing while monitoring all relevant parameters (temps, voltages, frequencies etc.). Think of Cinebench, 3DMark and HWInfo64 for monitoring. Ask your mate to do the exact same tests with the same settings and compare the data of the monitoring logs. If you find deviations, you have a more aqurate area where you can pinpoint the problem(s).

Please let us know if you were able to do this and found any problem.

Considering your monitor has no bearing whatsoever in number of FPS you get in game, that is not the problem....

All great points, I will probably stump up for the G7 again once I get my refund, and will do a few more extensive tests. I said the exact same thing to my mate about the monitor not being the culprit a few weeks ago, but then I started thinking, maybe the newer model has a better QLED panel so it was taking more out of the 4080. Like the difference between say a LED tv and a QLED tv. a better picture so it needs more grunt. This is what I was hoping Samsung was going to clarify for me when I wrote to them. I don't think I got through to the organ grinder though.

Playing DCS world online, I have a Pico 4 and my mate has a G2, we have the same in game settings and get very similar FPS, same with Elite Dangerous. Probably be a few weeks until I get my refund and get a new monitor, so thanks all, and I will let you know the outcome of the tests.

No, that's not how display panels work.
If the resolution is the same, the monitor has nothing to do with performance, assuming both run at the same refresh rate etc.

After 2 weeks of pulling my hair out and sitting in my garden waiting for the neighbours cat so I could kick it. the mystery of the FPS with the G7 monitor has been solved.
A few months back when we built our respective computers, I said to my mate I am turning off Intel Turbo Boost to start with as I don't like my CPU's hitting 80+ degrees and I will overclock it in a few months, and then when I get a decent temp and OC then I can run through the OC settings with you. I said, at the moment the CPU will turbo up to 5.3 and hit 80+ degrees, but with turbo boost off it will stay at 3.4 and run around 50 degrees. He didn't like the idea of his CPU hitting 80+ either so he also turned off Turbo Boost, so our computers are running at 3.4 stock. Checked HW info, 3.4 @ 0.9+ volts.

So the penny dropped tonight playing ARMA, him on his 32 inch 240Hz, 2K, G7, and me on my 27 inch, 144 Hz, 1080P, iiyama, he was still getting more FPS than me. "You sure you are still running 3.4 stock", "yes mate, I haven't touched anything". After checking HW Info, his core clock was running at 5.3, turns out when he upgraded his BIOS to H60, he forgot to turn off Turbo Boost when the Bios reset.

I guess every cloud has a silver lining, the neighbours cat doesn't come into my garden anymore lol.
