Hi, i cannot access bios using F2 or even F10 settings function with my Samsung notebook.
When i push F2 repeatedly it will go to a black screen after the Samsung boot logo and stay there until i switch off/restart.
My PC boots into windows fine so i'm assuming bios is not corrupt and working but not just displaying the bios screen for some strange reason - anybody have any ideas?

Model is NP900X3E-A02US and running windows 10

thanks

Sammy say:

If we can't access your BIOS, nobody can, hehehe :D /s

Seriously though, have you tried any other keys at startup, like delete, F1 or F12 ?

Almost every computer brand & even some models from the same brand use different keys to access the BIOS..

Yep tried all other keys.
Disabled fast boot too and makes no difference.
F2 woks as it takes it to a black screen, just the bios doesn't appear. Strangely F10 works to select boot manager however the minute you tab to select settings, it loads but gives the black screen again.
I've tried a hdmi cable just to check if video resolution is too high for some reason but nothing appearing on that either.
I'm going to try a fresh install of windows but assumed it should have no impact as bios is exclusive?

Try unplugging HD and or remove one mem card before powering on
Changes to the physical Hardware sometimes forces you into BIOS for setup confirmation

at least it will stop any corruption of your hard drive untill you are able to access bios

ok tried that and it just gives f4 recovery option or any key for boot manager.
I genuinely think something has happened to bios and perhaps needs re-flashing? I have no idea how to get hold of the bios from samsung as its not on the website...

From within windows:

1. Navigate to Settings. You can get there by clicking the gear icon on the Start menu.
2. Select Update & Security.
3. Select Recovery from the left menu.
4. Click Restart Now under Advanced startup. The computer will reboot to a special menu.
5. Click Troubleshoot.
6. Click Advanced options.
7. Select UEFI Firmware Settings.
8. Click Restart.

Samsung's manual states that 'F2' would the key to access BIOS/UEFI. I agree that with fastboot that will not be accessible, but you can also do a full shut-down by pressing 'Shift' as you click to shut windows down.
From what I believe are the actual photos of the model of your laptop, there seems to be a UEFI reset button at the bottom.

That might trigger a prompt for you to go check settings in the UEFI 1st, before continuing with boot, although this isn't stated in the manual I've seen.

This just results in the samsung boot logo staying on-screen until you turn the laptop off and back on for windows normal boot - very strange

This button seems to be exact location of the battery...

How would the reset be performed? push and hold for few seconds with power off/on ?

Sounds silly I know. But I have experienced that if you pull the CMOS battery on some brands of laptops, you lose access to the bios.

Maybe consider swapping the cmos battery with a fresh one if you haven't tried.

Same behaviour - goes to black screen after samsung logo. Bios must be functioning as windows is booting... ? I just can't access it
