I'm having a problem setting a password on my Linksys WRT54G wireless router. I have my 4 comps hardwired to the router and I want my room mates Mac to use the wireless signal.
I went to the Linksys setup page, enabled wireless security, set it to WEP and typed in my the 10 digit HEX number. But when he tries to connect his MAC and enter the hex key (password) it says "invalid". His Mac has no problem connecting when the router is un-secure. I also try and connect my phone to the wireless and it just keeps trying to obtain the address......? Do I need drivers for the router or am I missing something.:wtf:

Dont use WEP if you can,

set it to WPA or WPA2 and USE AES if u can otherwise stick with tkip,

set 10 char+ password and everthing will just work.

( iv always had issues connecting devices with WEP... also i can and so can many other people , Crack wep in less then 5 mins. )

so use WPA if you can.

I will give it a try right now and see if that works........

^ everything i was going to say, was said here.

One possibility however, is that the mac uses older tech and isnt compatible with WPA/WPA2.

My preference is WPA-PSK, that way you can use any length password you want - and its not limited to hex.

Should I use WPA RADUIS or WPA Pre-shared Key or just RADUIS? and what is the difference between AES and TKIP?

WPA + pre shared key.

AES and TKIP are just two different encryption methods, AES being slightly better.

WPA - PSK would be the easiest option, AES is harder to crack is all the difference is really but TKIP is easyer to setup as well.

Assuming the shared key is the password, does it have to be a certain number of digits your letters? and his Maz is now asking for a username as well, whats the username? is it my Router name?

if you use WPA-PSK, no, it doesnt.

If you use normal WPA or WEP, it has a set length. There is no user name... sounds like he's trying to log into the router, lol.

On a side note: do Android phones support WPA/WPA2?

and it's still not accepting the password:( Like I said, his Mac works when the signal is not secure, but as soon as I put a passcode it doesn't accept it. AHHH I hate wireless:mad:

no no, you hate MACS. dont forget "macs just work"

Odds are his mac is either not auto-detecting the settings (and trying to run WEP while it should be WPA - look up how to check that) or his mac doesnt support the security settings (EG, its old shit and only supports WEP64, and you're trying the newer WPA stuff)

EDIT: Ok now his Max wont even bring up the password window???

Edit again: I just qouted myself:laugh:

Thanks Mussels and slyfox2151 for you help.:respect:

Yay well done,

i hope the answer is something amusing like "hit the mac/mac user with a hammer til it worked"
