Have an MSI P6N-SLi board and I need to use the onboard serial header, but the boards don't come with the serial bracket, and I hardly know the pinouts.. I know there are 2 standards for the pinouts, but don't know what they are and don't have a clue which standard this board uses...

Of course MSI doesn't list the part on their website or any more information and their "contact us" is useless..

Hmmm after I get off work I'll look in my box of spare parts to see if I have any serial brackets like that.

This might help.If this is not the exact one look around the site :D

Thanks, I guess the two standards are straight through and cross configuration.... W/e that means I'm not sure, it's possible the plug into the board might be upside down, going to try that later... Stupid serial ports, who seriously uses them anymore :(

Go figure the outdated software wont work over a usb to serial adapter either.

I guess the two standards are kinda like lan cables-xover and straight thru'.hopefully the header on the board uses a standard pinout as on the link.

Ya the problem is the pinout is not standard.. I finally ripped the bracket cable apart to see where the pins lined up.
