I'm trying to set a max gpu temp for my AMD R9 390 graphics card. I've tried using MSI afterburner with no luck ( it doesn't save the setting whenever I click apply, just resets). I also tried using Wattman to set fps to 45 fps, but Wattman is unstable and keeps crashing the game. Lastly I tried changing the temp settings in the bios , but couldn't find any options under 'power' that allows me to change the target temperature. My goal is to set it to 85 degree C. My last goal was to manually create a custom GPU Bios... I'm hoping there's an easier way and I missed something. My specs are as follows (just in case someone would like to know)-

Amd r9 -390 GPU
BaseBoard Product 990FXA-UD5 R5
Total Physical Memory 16.0 GB
Processor AMD FX(tm)-8320 Eight-Core Processor, 3500 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)

Open GPU-Z, get a screen shot, then click the black arrow next to the uefi checkbox and attempt to upload the bios to yhe VGA Bios Collection/Database, you should get a prompt that the bios is already in the datsbase with a link, copy and paste that link here, then get a pic of white sticker on card back

What drivers are you using?
What is your room temperature?
What power supply model number?

Have you ensure mothrrboard bios is latest? Chipset drivers?

U could try to install latest drivers without software and then use gpu tweak or msi afterburner just choose one of it and dont install another one.... should be stable. Had same issue clean install latest drivers uninstall any of that shit software... Go look for a (ddu) driver uninstall for display something like that if i remeber u should find it easy. U need to completly get rid of any drivers. U can find tutorials on youtube how to install latest drivers without software. I know the pain been throught this and wasted a lot of time trying to find out whats going on it all happens because of that intefere with your programs which are for oc. Another story is check your card thermal pads paste etc. Sometimes it can be for example memory overheating or something like that while core gets normal temp. Same problem i have my RX shut down at about 65c and when i play games 70% fans and it wont crash. I know i havent got thermal pads on memory and maybe thats the issue idk... So if i was you i would first check heatsink, vaccum it, clean etc look on youtube if you never done that its NOT easy but take time and be carefull :D You need to sort out your system first. U cant use 3 software for oc thats never going to work. cheers Peace YO

Thank you for the assistance. I managed to settle on a solution after checking all the things you were talking about. Although I never managed to fix the issue of adjusting the temp limit on the gpu ( I believe it's driver related) after trying different drivers and all the other suggestions, however, I found that I was best off keeping a different version driver than the one I had. It was more recent and had built-in cooling contingency already... I'm thinking quite a few people have been having this problem. Thanks again, the heating problem is better now.
