Significant frame drop in map on GTA 5 on PC

So I've been having this weird problem on GTA 5 on PC where when I'm in game, it works fine except for when I hit Escape to go into the menus/map. When I do this, the FPS drops from like 90-110ish down to like 6-8. I have no idea why tf it's doing this on my rig (i7 9700k @ 5Ghz, 64GB RAM, Samsung 970 Evo Plus SSD on an Asus Strix 1080Ti). I'm running the game exclusively in full screen mode just in case the issue is something to do with Borderless Window mode (which I was running it in) but the problem still occurs. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas/suggestions/thoughts on this?

P.S. It has been doing this for some time, even before this latest patch that increases loading times for the Online mode.

you could try capping the FPS, maybe though vsync.

Any difference when you unplug the controller ?.

Yeah so it looks like capping the FPS did the trick. I did have a controller connected but disconnected it, same thing, but then when I capped the frame rate to just 60, it seems to be ok now. I guess GTA 5 doesn't like either high refresh rate or G-Sync. Cheers for that!

I have a 9700k @ 5.1Ghz and a 1080ti, but only 16GiB for PC3200 memory. I've never experienced this problem with GTAV and I use G-sync too.

Yeah, I don't know eh, I can't explain it but I can say that ever since I capped the FPS to 60, it hasn't been a problem.

You got a 144Hz screen, you can set it to 144Hz V-Sync with G-Sync on.

I thought G-sync should be used independently and without the use of V-sync?
