In a few words, I have a 6400 intel core duo, my objective minimum noise for the cpu coler, not much interested in overclocking. I have read many reviews and my cpu coolers options in a near hadware shop are:

ThermalTake Golden Orb 2:
Barely inaudible, but low performance.
ThermalTake Blue Orb 2:
Better performance than golden orb but more noisy.

ThermalTake Big Typhoon:
This is my favourite but they run out of stock
Tacens gelus:
I don´t know if this is a new brand because I couldn't find any reviews with this cooler and the thermaltakes.

Artic Cooling Freezer 7 :
This is in stock but I prefer pro versión.
Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro:
No stock of this type.

Scythe Mine and Scythe Ninja Plus:
Nice features low noise but as the Orbs very big and heavy.

So my conclusions are that Orbs are very nice for low noise system but too big , I should dismount my air tunnel (Tacens Audeo case). May be the same problem for the Scythes ones, I don´t want also to stress my motherboard because their weights. The artic freezer 7 pro it´s one of my favourites. At this point, this is my ranking , but I have only read about them in webs reviews, I have NOT tested anyone so I´m open to all opinions:

1.ThermalTake Big Typhoon
2.Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
3.Tacens gelus
4.ThermalTake Golden Orb 2
5.ThermalTake Blue Orb 2

So what do you think about them, have you try some?, anyone knows about the Tacens Gelus one?.
If this change improves my cpu noise I will put an accelero x2 also for my sapphire 1900gt, anyone has change the stock fan? is it difficult?
Thanks !!

Hi.

I use the Arctic freezer 64 pro. Great cooler for the money. And also quiet.
And it has the advantage that it blows the warm air towards the back of your case. Where normaly a case fan is mounted to suck the air out of your case. ;)

For the videocard i also would recommend the Accelero or the Zalman VF900.
I have both. The Zalman on my X1950 Pro and the Arctic on X1900 GT. Both are good coolers.
Arctic is a bit cheaper but non the less good. You would not waste any money on both of them.:toast:

Can't say this from experience, but I'd go with the Freezer 7. What are the differences between the standard and pro versions of it? I have an Arctic Cooling Silencer 64, and it does a wonderful job keeping everything cool an extremely quiet. Also, I notice you haven't considered any Zalman options...Zalman is on/above par with Arctic Cooling in terms of silent powerful coolers.

One more thing...where do you live? If you live in the USA, www.newegg.com has some very nice, low priced options in the CPU cooling department.

I have a Zalman cpu cooler and i like the freezer 64 better.:D. Just saw the Freezer 7 also good choice imo.
Maybe a bit more quiet then the Freezer 64 Pro because of the new fan they use.

What about the noise leves of the Accelero x2 and the Zalman VF900 ?, you notice much difference?.
I´m not considering zalman mainly because its seems to be overprice about 70€ for a ZALMAN CNSP8000 that its the one I can get easily, and I didn´t find any review that justifies that price comparing to ninja for example. Also because i aim a silent fan and I don´t know how zalmans noise leves are, any experience?. :wtf:
It´s really difficult to compare many coolers by their features, it should existe a standard for noise levels measurements that all manufacters will use :pimp:

Thanks for your replies.

I had a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and it kept my hot Prescott from 35C idle to 27C-29C and full load from 60C-65C to 45C-50C and it was O/C'ed to 4.3Ghz too, so I really like the Freezer 7 Pro

The Accelero is a bit more quiet imo.

Trust me. For the price of the Arctic coolers you won't get screwed performance wise.
They have good coolers for a cheap price. And lots of people here use their coolers. Simply because they are good.

You are right about the prices compared to performance. Many coolers are more expensive then lets say the Arctice Freezer Pro, but they performance is less. I think that Arctic can make those coolers so cheap because they are a big company and they use cheap materials.

I must say that the Zalman coolers do look a lot better.

I have just see a ninja in a near computer shop, and its really big hehe:D . I also found many post about problems with mountin a ninja into a p5b deluxe, because the capacitors near to the cpu sometimes block the ninja, so I think I will reduce my options to:
Big Typhon
Artic freezer 7 pro
Tacens Gelus

Why not the Zalman 9500 ? Or the 9700 ? Both are excellent coolers, and you should at least consider them before deciding on just one.

You are right that they are very nice. But they are also more expensive. And as he says he doesn't overclock so he don't need it. And personaly i don't think that the difference between the coolers he is looking at and the Zalman coolers is really that big.

Room temperature is the most important. If you don't want to sit in a freezer then the minimal cpu temperature will be the temp of your room, lets say 22 degrees celcius.
My 3700+ runs at 2.4 now. Idle 29/30. Under load around 40. With fans set at 50% speed.
So if i would buy a 9500 or so, then my temps would not drop more then a few degrees compared to the cheap Arctic cooler. Imo it's not worth the money.

Also the airflow is important.
With air coolers you can get the most expensive cooler. But when the hot air get's trapped nearby your cpu because of bad air flow then it heats up even more.

:)

I think noctua nh-u12 and ninja plus are too heavy for any mobo, you should take care to move your cpu with that small monsters on in :D . And also for that price you can get a new medium-end mobo. Any one has experiences with the Big Typhon ? (Althougt it weights 825 gms it's smaller).
I´m now looking for a review with the Artic cooling freezer 7 and the Tacens gelus or de Aerocool Dominator

i got a Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro and i lovce it my idle temp is 30*c on a amd athlon 64 4000+ @ stock

e6600 @ 3.5ghz 1.47v
Big Typhoon best load temp 63c
Blue Orb II best load temp 71c

After lapping CPU
BOII load temp 66c
BT untested.

Both the BT and BO were lapped which showed no improvement.

I figured I'd add that input for you.

Infinity Monday! :)

The AC 64 Pro and Zalman 9500 or 9700 are good choices. I have all three, and they work a treat. They are all very quiet as I use them in my HTPC setups, I'm not into the serious overclocking with noisy fans.

Finally I buy de tacens gelus:
Good: CPU temperature 28º 30º C idle, low noise, even low while low rpm.
BAD: rpm control in the back difficult to access. No PWM control with the Mobo, only 3 pin conector, so 4th pin PWN FAN of my motherboard is useless.
