The replies about 120mm cpu fans were so great. Figured I would see how fully my ideas on air flow fans for rear exhaust fell apart.
Cooler Master MasterFan Pro 140 Air Flow was very close to being where I quit looking. PWM profile looked very good to me; 2.1 mm/H2O at 300 rpm/6dBA and 106 CFM at full power where air pressure drops to nothing. Ball bearing issues apparently are quite common and reveal themselves early on.
The current trend seems to be toward a more linear profile favoring static pressure over a much wider range of speed. With exception of fans made purely for radiators or exceptionally airflow starved cases. Neither of those use cases apply to me. Oh yes, almost forgot about the allure of RGB and LED which very much does not apply to me. In fact, this last issue has disqualified a large number of fans and forced me to ask for help again. Pretty much out of ideas that interest me at this point.
My current target spec is a square 140mm PWM fan that is quiet and has a reasonably high CFM below say 700 rpm. It can be horribly ugly or garishly colored unlike the above mentioned 120mm.
So what does TPU recommend for simply exhausting air reasonably quietly for the next number of years?
