skylake Z170 memory issue's

So I bought corsair memory for my skylake build(unknowing there is a memory issue)and the memory voltage is directly connected to this issue. At the time I bought my CPU from blah blah on line I bought Z170 comparable memory or so I thought............... So I ended up getting corsair 16GB 2X8 3000 speed memory@1.35 v(cheap my fault) and of course the next board I got to use it on(Asus Z170-A) has issue's with it. Skylake CPU'S will die early with Voltage over 1.2v on the memory controller.

So my new board and CPU and MEMORY are in a rigid tubing build(not working) after completely swapping it out with my Z77 build. But of course the memory will not work with my Asus Z170-A, I contact Corsair USA. No worries send it in for an RMA, here is a shipping label which of course has the wrong address so I end up having to spend $7 more dollars out of my pocket to send my $90 memory that does NOT WORK with a motherboard the memory was intent and made to work with.


CORSAIR: Get your priorities straight, customer service SHOULD BE #1 clearly it is not.

sorry to hear you have problems but i dont think memory over 1,200 volt will degrade skylake cpu´s
this fairy tail they told us since nehalem
 
This is a standard for DDR4 : either 1.2V or 1.35V . These memory sticks should work :confused::confused::confused:

Moreover , should be a different XMP profile to run at 1.2V

A few things:

1.) The Corsair description has "Designed for Overclocking" all over the product description. Overclockers understand the risks of pushing their hardware and know that doing so degrades the expected life.
2.) The Skylake IMC supports 1.35v memory. It is in Intel's official spec. In fact, Skylake supports DDR3L, which runs at 1.35v. The CPU will not die early by running 1.35v.
3.) The SPD rating on the memory you bought is 2133@1.2v. So the sticks should work, and boot at those speeds by default. If it doesn't, then there is a problem elsewhere. You have to enable XMP or adjust them manually to get 3000@1.35v.
4.) It isn't Corsair's fault that you didn't educate yourself before making the purchase. They clearly state 1.35v is needed to run the rated speeds. They also make the default 100% safe settings. They even RMA'd a product that is nothing more than the customer screwed up buying something without knowing what they were doing. Seems to me their priorities are right where they should be.

Also, from Corsairs own support page:
  • We include a pair of XMP profiles instead of just one for users who want to control how much power is consumed by the memory. The first XMP profile runs the DDR4 at its specification of 1.2V, while the second offers a higher speed at the cost of bumping the voltage to 1.35V. The first profile, then, is officially supported, while the second is not and instead offers a baseline of what the memory should be able to achieve.

Are you sure you are not mistaking the memory controller voltages (system agent and vccio) with dram voltage?

they are seperate settings, and generally need to be set to 1.15-1.20 to run ddr4 at 3000+ speeds, they will be set lower by default on asus boards, i have the rog m8 ranger and it sets these too low on earlier bios when enabling xmp (i had read about this prior to assembly so set all timings and voltages manually)
 
I miss read it(stated DDR3)as the first one's supported DDR3, I bought the memory for another board originally

you r right, as I heard of the DDR3 will eventually hurt the skylake cpu if used over long periods. This memory set was bought to go with a different motherboard, I just assumed it would work but was not on the suggested list, Corsair is RMAing them, I did try to stay nutral during my rant but. Funny thing is it worked on the bench but soon as I installed it, would not boot after first time......
any way i'll update when new memory comes in then test it good. Yeah it was 3200Mhz memory Gring, so the V on the IMC is 1.35, Thanks all sorry for my piss n whine act!!!
 
Well the slap in the face came after they sent me a shipping label with my old address after I had already updated my addy........:banghead:
