I have an ATI 9800 pro video card. When i enter the advanced video settings menu's and select Smart Gart, my AGP settings are set to off. 4x and 8x are available to choose. I obviosly want to choose 8x, so i do. an info box pops up and tells me to restart the pc. No problem right, wrong.

After restart i go back to that screen and lo and behold my agp is set to off again. Now it says that it automatically chooses the most stable setting, but how can off be the most stable setting.

How is this affecting my video card performance? or does it?

P.S. I viewed my system specs using SANDRA and current agp settings show up as blank. oh and by the way 4x dosn't work either.

Well if its resetting the agp, it must be unstable. I shouldn't be though. Try reinstalling your drivers. Without having agp, you might as well have pci video card. It will effect the transfer rate between the card and the rest of the pc so it will slow you down. So try cleaning off your drivers then reinstall. You might have to disable fast writes aswell to have the agp.

check bios for agp 8x enabled and it isnt a problem if you have 4x or 8x it runs at same speed

i have reinstalled the drivers for both the video card and the mother board with no luck. now what?

I have also checked my bios and 8x is enabled

If fast write is on turn it off and try the AGP agian.

ati 9800 pro 128meg
nforce2 chipset

You can disable the fire wall if you want. You might have to reinstall windows. But see if you can try the card in another computer first. If you have the same problem then its the card if not you have to reinstall or search for the problem in windows.

No friends that will let you use their computers? But doing windows should fix it if its software.
