I have been having some problems since installing the patch opening up the other 4 pipelines in the 9800se. My performance is much better, but I keep getting a sort of checkerboard effect in some areas. sometimes it would appear when an area is lit up with gunfire, as is the case with CoD and JKII. with other games, such as FEAR and halo it covers the entire screen. I don't want to use a different driver as my performance will once again be dismal. if anyone else has had, or has this problem, please help me. my specs are:

AMD Sempron 2600+
512 mb RAM
ABIT NF7-s mobo
Xpertvision 256mb 128bit graphics card, softmodded

if nobody can help me, do you have the email address of the person who wrote the patch? is he even affiliated with this site?

thanks

Hi I have same problem with my 9800se and no one cant help me, I have yelow dots in ati tool on the box

I've seen that kind of thing before. Are you overclocking? Have you flashed the bios?

Checkerboard = bad pipes

3 choices :

1. live with it
2. go back to 4 pipes
3. get a new video card

neither.

gee thanks knaff. is it not at all possible to get a patch of some sort from the coder who wrote the thing in the first place?

You could try Omega drivers, they can enable the 4 extra pipes too.

But honestly, it won't help. You got bad pipes dude and there's nothing you can do about it. Sure, you can try disabling Z-Buffer, underclocking, overclocking, different drivers, better cooling etc...but nothing can fix a defective GPU - that's why they are SE dude and not Pro.

And yeah, I have a 9800se 128bit like you and it softmods with only a very slight checkerboard, so I live with it. It was half the price of the 9800Pro, so I'm not complaining.

You could always go back to 4 pipes and overclock it

Tufa, those yellow dots are artifacts. Lower your clock speeds with ATI tool untill they go away. Maybe get better cooling then possibly volt mod. However if you are getting squares "checker board" you have bad pipes.

well that's too bad. i guess i will have to live with it, at least until i get an upgrade. thanks

Try taking the card out of the system then putting it back in, if you haven't done so already. Maybe even leave it out of the system for a little while.

I once had the same problem on an X700 I used to use and this solved it, maybe it will for you, too.
