Hello to all and thank you for having me.

Recently purchased a Sony TA-F30 amp.
It works, yes. Nice build quality. I took the lid off. Carefully cleaned inside, compressed air, the works.
When on only 20 mins it becomes dangerously hot. You can't rest a hand on it for the heat, hot. Also my lounge smells as if I have been arc welding in it.
It doesn't shut down or off and I expected some heat but...
External fan or?

Thank you in advance.

Bin it and buy new with proper warranty if you can't fix it.

That doesnt sound normal at all. If you insist on keeping it, i would suggest you find an electrical engineer (or audio repair shop) that specialises working on audio equipment and see if they can give it an inspection.

Don't touch it. It needs to be hot to be linear. It is all thought out.

You are lucky, this thing ain't STK but a dedicated end transistor based. I cannot find what class it is, most probably AB, you have to dig the manual and see if quiescent currents are right on both shoulders.

Do a recap and change the opamp, but remember to put a slow one there. NE5534/2 are totally fine.

If not experienced in servicing it take it in to have pots and stuff cleaned and re balanced. These do get pretty hot even more so when in use.

As @Ferrum Master said caps might need a look at too, maybe you can try to spot any bulging or even leaking but it's not how they fail all the time, maybe get some one to recap it as well and of course this does depend on how much this amp means to you.

Well bless your heart for that. Its finding someone in Leicester who does that kind of work?

All the best

A 30WPC amp should not get that hot, perhaps the bias on ech channel needs checking.
