First off if I have two sound cards, can I use one for processing and the other for output?

I have a SBLive! card but it does not have FO output. on the other hand I have a Turtle Beach Riviera card that does, but it is a poor sound card and unsupported by most games. Has anyone ever tried this before? please help. :)

SEE BELOW, new question.

not sure you can do that at all, especially with two different brands of cards.

I was thinking maybe if I could input the sblive directly to the riviera via the input, maybe I can have the riviera just repeat the sound through the fiberoptic port? would I lose much quality i wonder... I guess I'll have to try it

yeah you're gonna have to do something like that because from what i understood you were wanting to do like with some video card setups and have one for rendering and one for physics

yes you can...install both cards and all, and in control panel > sound and audio devices > audio...

you can set your recording for one card, and playback on the other.

okay, I have recording set for my sblive - having problems with the FO output though it doesnt want to work, but my heaphones work on the Turtle. this means that in games my sblive will process the info correct?

Recording to me seems like microphone recording, and not the other stuff.

edit: The line in seems to be working because when I turn down the volume, I quit hearing things..so everything must be working...except for the lousy FO port but I'll figure that out.

is there a way to have them both on at the same time? the riviera only repeats the linein through the line out port. it will not repeat the FO.

The only way I can get the riviera to use the line-in port is if I have the SBLive! card doing playback. and the only way the FO port is used is if the riviera is doing the playback... kind of annoying.

Thinking about buying a new sound card, but I cant seem to find an X-Fi card with FiberOptic Output. The $256 elite Soundblaster comes with an external sound-routerish type of thing that would work, but I'd like to not spend so much money. can anyone recommend a similar device that would convert a sound card's sound to FO? or perhaps an ABOVE AVERAGE soundcard that has this FO port built in?
